Disney’s Animal Kingdom has a brand-new and absolutely adorable resident! Meet Corra, a 312-pound African elephant calf, who made her grand debut today. At just two months old, she already holds a special place in history as the first second-generation elephant born at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Her mother, Nadirah, was also born at the park, making this a remarkable moment for Disney’s elephant conservation efforts.

Corra is joining a loving and familiar herd, surrounded by family members who will help guide her through her new world: Nadirah (Mom), Donna (Grandmother), Stella & Luna (Aunts) and Mac (Dad)
The Journey to Corra’s Arrival
The process of bringing Corra into the world took two years of planning. It all began when Disney’s animal care team and endocrinologists noticed changes in Nadirah’s behavior, signaling that she was ready for motherhood. After careful monitoring and a successful introduction with Mac, the next generation of elephants at Disney’s Animal Kingdom was on the way!
Throughout her pregnancy, Nadirah received regular ultrasounds and checkups to ensure both mom and baby remained healthy. Veterinarian Dr. Betsy monitored the pregnancy closely, even feeling tiny kicks from baby Corra in the final weeks. With a diet rich in sweet potatoes, carrots, and hay, Nadirah stayed strong and well-nourished throughout the journey.
As her 22-month pregnancy neared its end, the animal care and endocrinology teams tracked her hormone levels daily. A drop in progesterone signaled that Corra’s arrival was imminent, and soon enough, she made her grand entrance into the world!
The Science Behind Corra’s Birth
Bringing an African elephant calf into the world requires expertise, precision, and teamwork. The dedicated animal care team at Disney plays a crucial role in monitoring the park’s elephant population. Every step of the way, from tracking reproductive cycles to coordinating introductions. These specialists ensure the genetic diversity and long-term health of these incredible animals.
Through collaborations with the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ Species Survival Plan, Disney’s Animal Kingdom has played a key role in protecting endangered and threatened species. In addition to African elephants, Disney has welcomed species such as Sumatran tigers, western lowland gorillas, cotton-top tamarins, and okapis—all part of its ongoing conservation mission.
