Shōgun Extended Trailer Released by FX

From our Friends at D23

FX unveiled a new look at the highly anticipated limited-series Shōgun. Adapted from James Clavell’s 1975 novel of the same name, the historical drama immerses viewers in 1600 feudal Japan, and portrays the onset of a pivotal civil war.

The 30-second teaser directed viewers to a new extended trailer for the series, which debuts on Hulu and FX on Tuesday, February 27.

You can watch it here:

Shōgun follows the story of John Blackthorne, an English pilot shipwrecked in 17th-century Japan. Blackthorne gets caught up in Japan’s political intrigue—fighting to stay alive and, eventually, return home. During his journey, he makes friends, falls in love, and adapts to samurai life… but he also gets pulled into the power struggles among Japanese leaders.

In a promotional image for FX’s Shōgun, Hiroyuki Sanada, portrayed by Yoshii Toranga, stands at the center of the image wearing traditional Japanese armor. Behind him, a lush forest and army tents create the backdrop, while sporadic torches cast an eerie, mysterious glow.

The action-packed Shōgun features an acclaimed Japanese cast and delves into themes of treachery, devotion, fear, greed, power, deceit, passion, and destiny—all while portraying the human spirit in its most vulnerable and resilient form.

Hiroyuki Sanada, also an executive producer, plays Yoshii Toranga, a pivotal figure in both the novel and the limited series. Toranga finds himself embroiled in a life-or-death struggle as adversaries from the Council of Regents conspire against him. In contending with them, Toranga joins forces with Blackthorne. Toda Mariko, portrayed by Anna Sawai, bridges the language barrier between the two, but is often challenged to prove her loyalty to Toranga.

Against the backdrop of a nation on the brink of upheaval, Shōgun unfolds a tale of courage and resilience in the face of overwhelming odds. With each twist and turn, the series immerses viewers in a rich tapestry of Japanese culture, tradition, and the timeless struggle for power and redemption.
