According to Kirstin Makela, Art Director at Walt Disney Imagineering, “Walt Disney Imagineering was so inspired to take a peek behind the curtain and learn more about the creation of our favorite Pixar films. We wanted to bring this iconic collection of artwork directly to our guests in unique ways throughout the property and new artwork created for the hotel.”
Here is a look at some of the details.
Lobby: Pixar film highlights adorn the front desk, showcasing characters in vibrant artwork. A giant Pixar Lamp sculpture steals the spotlight, while an animated mobile of beloved characters dances above, capturing their essence from initial sketches.
Guest Rooms: Each room boasts a lively Pixar-inspired design, featuring curated artwork and a charming Pixar Lamp. Headboards showcase concept art from various films, arranged by color temperature to illustrate their impact on scene tone.
Pool Area: Dive into fun at the colorful pool area, where families can enjoy Crush’s Surfin’ Slide, Pixel Pool, and Nemo’s Cove splash pad. Rent private daybeds or pods by day, and gather around fire pits resembling famous Pixar characters at night for a cozy ambiance.
Pixar Shorts Court: Play outdoor games inspired by Pixar shorts next to the rooftop pool. Enjoy Bao Toss, Follow the Leader, Shuffleboard, and Burrow Path, each themed to a different short film. Indulge in snacks under the love-struck umbrellas from “The Blue Umbrella.”
Shopping: Explore STOR-E, a retail shop named after “WALL-E,” featuring artwork inspired by iconic Pixar symbols. Discover Pixar-themed apparel and toys alongside Disneyland Resort souvenirs and essentials.
Dining: Pixar Place Hotel features multiple food and beverage offerings operated by Southern California-based eatery, Great Maple:
Great Maple: The 6,500 square-foot restaurant is located on the ground floor just off the lobby, serving playful takes on upscale comfort food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Hotel guests, theme park goers and local diners can enjoy signature dishes in a modern space, including buttermilk fried chicken and maple bacon doughnuts, Cajun shrimp and cheddar biscuit benedict, soda pop-braised baby back ribs, charred cauliflower hummus, maple pecan-crusted salmon, market fish and a variety of inspired salads.
The Sketch Pad Café: Just off the lobby, this grab-and-go coffee shop serves a selection of pastries, coffee and teas. The wall décor shows a timeline of Pixar films conveyed through character design, with early sketches of some favorite characters offering insight into the artist’s journey.
Small Bytes – opening early March 2024: The rooftop pool bar will serve salads, wraps, assorted cheese plates and more with signature beverages. The bar’s exterior wall features 22 pixel-art style portraits of Pixar characters designed specifically for the hotel.
Themed Signature Suites – coming later in 2024: When final touches are complete later this year, Pixar Place Hotel will have 479 total guest rooms, including two new themed signature suites.
Coco Suite: Inspired by Pixar’s “Coco,” the cozy yet luxurious two-bedroom suite pays tribute to Miguel and the Rivera family’s legacy through vibrant Oaxacan art.
Incredibles Suite: A midcentury modern suite with a spy-fi twist, this two-bedroom home base features Parr family memorabilia from “The Incredibles.”
Concierge Lounge – coming later in 2024: Available to concierge-level guests beginning later this year,the Creators Club on the second floor will have snacks and beverages available throughout the day. The lounge will showcase the collaboration between Pixar and Walt Disney Imagineering, featuring Pixar attraction posters, concept art and a playlist of tunes from Pixar experiences in Disney parks around the world.
Special Theme Park Access: Guests of Pixar Place Hotel can enjoy a convenient, dedicated entrance to Disney California Adventure Park just a short walk from the hotel, with a valid park ticket and theme park reservation.
Fun Facts:
Specially composed for Pixar Place Hotel, the new lobby music includes 10 new arrangements of Pixar cues and celebrates favorite themes from many Pixar films. The Pixar Place Hotel album is available digitally for guests to listen to.
16 Pixar character silhouettes embedded in the lobby floor and elevator cabs are a nod to the floor details found at Pixar Animation Studios in Emeryville, Calif.
Appearing for the first time at any Disney property, Bing Bong from Pixar’s “Inside Out” makes his world debut at Pixar Place Hotel. At select times, he may be found creating core photo memories with guests.
At select times, Joe Gardner from “Soul” may be seen and heard playing the piano near the hotel’s staircase, delighting guests as he shares anecdotes and loses himself in “The Zone.”
In the Creators Club, concierge-level guests will discover a few fan-favorite elements of past and present Pixar attractions, including a bug light fixture from “a bug’s land” and a snake ride vehicle from Jessie’s Critter Carousel.
Mike and Sulley from Pixar’s “Monsters University” can be spotted on treadmills in a mural in the new fitness center.
The artwork at the rooftop Small Bytes bar exterior features pixel-art style character portraits, which is a nod to the use of computer technology in Pixar’s films.
