Hidden Details at Pixar Place Hotel

The transformation of Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel into Pixar Place Hotel at Disneyland Resort is now complete! Walt Disney Imagineers started reimagining the space in 2020, working to create the first Pixar-themed hotel in the United States. Now, this incredible destination celebrates the artistic process of Pixar Animation Studios, from sketch to the big screen.

Step Inside the Pixar Universe

From the moment guests enter the hotel atrium, they see a giant sculpture of the Pixar Lamp and Pixar Ball, beneath a vibrant mobile featuring stylized Pixar characters. While these big, eye-catching elements set the tone, the hotel overflows with smaller, hidden details that even the biggest Pixar fans might overlook. Here are some must-see features:

An illustration of Ember and Wade from Elemental on a sliding glass door. Ember is on the front glass door, her head poking up from the black frame surrounding her. Wade is blurrier, as he is on the back glass door, upside down and against a blue background.

A Doorway to New Art

Before even stepping inside, guests can spot animated magic on the hotel’s sliding glass doors. The doors feature colorful squares with Pixar characters, but when they slide open, the images merge and change colors! For example, fans of Elemental will notice Ember and Wade blending together when the doors move—what other surprises can you find?

A green couch with yellow spots, stylized to look like the caterpillar Heimlich from A Bug’s Life. The couch has little brown feet running along the bottom of the cushions.

A Beautiful… Butterfly?

Heimlich, the lovable caterpillar from A Bug’s Life, has a charming tribute in the hotel lobby. Look closely at the seating—one of the couches is designed to resemble Heimlich, complete with his signature oval spots and burnt orange feet. Don’t worry, this one won’t turn into a butterfly and fly away!

A hallway in Pixar Place Hotel, depicting a mural of panda Mei and her friends from Turning Red sitting on top of a building and looking out over the skyline. The mural is accented by a strip of red above the image. A wall perpendicular and to the right of the mural features actual windows looking out to a line of trees and sky.

Cinematic Inspirations on Every Floor

Each hotel floor is themed to a different Pixar film, with custom mural art and color schemes reflecting its world. For instance:

  • The Turning Red floor radiates bold reds.
  • The Finding Nemo floor, located near the pool deck, immerses guests in calming blues.
  • Every level offers a unique Pixar-inspired environment for guests to explore.

A metal, silver medallion in the shape of Bing Bong from Inside Out is inlaid in the gray floor of the Pixar Place Hotel.

Friendly Floors with Hidden Surprises

The lobby and first floor hold a secret challenge for Pixar fans. Sixteen metallic medallions, shaped like iconic Pixar characters, are hidden throughout the floor and elevator cabs. Can you find them all?

A gray rug in a hallway of Pixar Place Hotel. The rug features abstract line art in black of various Pixar characters, including Remy, Mater, and Edna Mode.

A Nod to Pixar’s Home Studio

The hallway and in-room rugs feature abstract Pixar character designs, but the guest room carpets hold a special tribute to Pixar Animation Studios in Emeryville, California. The lamp-inspired pattern was taken directly from grates found at Pixar Studios, making this design choice… pretty grate!

The desk in a guest room at Pixar Place Hotel sports a replica of the Pixar lamp, serving as a working desk lamp. Above the desktop is a flatscreen TV.

Pixar’s Most Famous Lamp in Every Room

The Luxo Jr. lamp, an icon of Pixar Animation, is featured in every guest room, illuminating each space with Pixar charm.

A wall sconce designed to look like a firefly is shining its light down into the room. The firefly is stylized to look like a bug from Pixar’s A Bug’s Life.

A Bug’s Light in the Creators Club

The Creators Club, a new concierge-level lounge, will open later this year. During a sneak peek at the grand opening, Imagineers revealed that a bug-powered light fixture from the former A Bug’s Land at Disney California Adventure now shines on inside Pixar Place Hotel!

An Artistic Celebration of Pixar’s Legacy

Pixar Place Hotel is filled with hidden gems and immersive storytelling, making it an unforgettable stay for Disney and Pixar fans alike. Whether it’s blending character images on glass doors, spotting themed floors, or searching for hidden medallions, every detail celebrates the magic of Pixar’s animation legacy.
