A Journey of Survival and Destiny

Mufasa’s story unfolds through Rafiki’s narration, as he recounts the king’s past to young Kiara, daughter of Simba and Nala. As a cub, Mufasa was alone and vulnerable, yet fate led him to a deep friendship with Taka, later known as Scar. Their relationship takes center stage in this film, showing how bonds of brotherhood can be tested by power, jealousy, and fate.

Mufasa – The Future King

Voiced by Aaron Pierre, young Mufasa begins as an outsider, searching for his place in the world. Unlike the confident ruler fans know, he starts as an orphan, facing hardship and uncertainty. Through determination and courage, Mufasa learns what it means to be a leader, overcoming betrayal and heartbreak to shape his destiny.

Pierre reflects on the role, stating, “Mufasa was separated from his family, left to survive on his own. Yet, he embraced everything around him, using it to elevate himself and those he loved.”

Taka – Before He Became Scar

Before becoming the infamous villain Scar, Taka was charismatic and eager to prove himself. Voiced by Kelvin Harrison Jr., the film presents him as an ambitious young lion.  With a desire to protect his family—including Mufasa. Their bond, full of adventure and challenges, is tested as power and rivalry seep in, shaping the Pride Lands’ future.

Harrison explains, “Taka is playful, lively, and passionate about his family. But as the story unfolds, his instincts lead him down a different path.”

Sarabi – Strength and Leadership

Young Sarabi, voiced by Tiffany Boone, is a fierce and independent lioness who survives against incredible odds. Forced to find strength in solitude, she eventually becomes a wise and powerful leader, forming a deep connection with Mufasa. Her bold spirit and resilience make her a key part of the story.

Boone shares, “You see Sarabi as a mother and queen in the original, but here you get to see how she became that wise and graceful leader.”

Timon & Pumbaa – Adding Laughter to the Legend

Beloved duo Timon and Pumbaa, voiced by Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen, bring their signature humor. As Rafiki recounts Mufasa’s tale, these two interrupt with their comedic takes, providing levity to the emotional journey.

Rogen jokes, “I definitely related more to the loser who farts more than anyone.” Eichner adds, “We had a shocking amount of freedom to riff—it was incredible how much made it into the film!”
