At Walt Disney World Resort, world-class care extends from the smallest plant to the largest elephant—and at the heart of it all are the women behind the magic. This Women’s History Month, Disney is shining a spotlight on the incredible female cast members of the Animals, Science and Environment team, whose dedication and expertise drive Disney’s leadership in conservation.
A Diverse Team with One Purpose
With more than 1,000 cast members, the Animals, Science and Environment team includes veterinarians, marine biologists, endocrinologists, ranch hands, plant scientists, and animal keepers. Many of these roles are held by women who share one common goal: to improve the world for animals, plants, and people.

Inspiring Stories from the Field
Dee, an Animal Care Manager at The Seas with Nemo & Friends in EPCOT, works closely with marine life. One of her proudest moments came when she and her team trained a newborn eagle ray to eat independently—a major milestone made possible by the trust they build with every animal.

“Growing up, I was surrounded by science-minded women like my mother and grandmothers who didn’t have the chance to go to college,” Dee shared. “Every day, I work to make them proud and inspire young girls interested in marine science.”

Laura, a plant scientist, has trained more than 400 interns during her Disney career. She teaches guests about agriculture and sustainability, planting seeds of inspiration in future environmentalists.

Ruby, a ranch hand at Tri-Circle-D Ranch, discovered her passion for horses early. Her love started with a Percheron her mother gifted her. Today, she cares for the horses that pull Cinderella’s carriage and create magical moments daily.

Katie shares wildlife stories with guests and finds purpose in Disney’s conservation mission. “I love that Disney offers resources and opportunities to make a real difference,” she said.

Chris, a long-time Animal Care Manager, leads a team focused on well-being, enrichment, and voluntary medical care. Her leadership sets a high bar for excellence and compassion.
Leading the Way in Conservation
Disney proudly supports conservation as a member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. This leadership remains powered by the women who protect wildlife and natural resources every day.
Throughout March, Disney will continue to feature more inspiring stories from these women. As they share their journeys and challenges, their passion shines through. From deep-sea reefs to forest trails, they keep making magic for animals and guests alike.
