Disney and Dr. Jane Goodall have partnered for decades to support wildlife, inspire youth, and promote a healthier planet. As Dr. Jane turns 90, Disney celebrates her legacy and contributions—just in time for Earth Month 2024.
A Lifelong Friendship and Shared Mission
In the 1990s, Disney invited Dr. Jane to review plans for a brand-new theme park: Disney’s Animal Kingdom. She offered advice and became a trusted voice in the park’s development. When the park opened, Disney honored her with a plaque on the Tree of Life and a carving of David Greybeard—the first chimpanzee who approached her in Gombe.
Since then, Jane has returned many times to mark Disney milestones and help launch global initiatives. In 2006, she was honored by the Disney Conservation Fund with a $100,000 grant. She later served as a Disneynature ambassador and supported the release of the film “Chimpanzee.”
Supporting Roots & Shoots
Since 2012, Disney has supported Jane Goodall Institute’s Roots & Shoots program. It connects young people with nature and encourages them to lead conservation efforts. This year, Disney announced a new gift from the Disney Conservation Fund to expand support for the program.
Planet Possible and Ongoing Impact
Dr. Jane played a key role in launching Disney Planet Possible, promoting optimism, sustainability, and conservation. Her message continues to resonate: “What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.”
To date, Disney Conservation has donated $125 million to global environmental efforts. These partnerships help protect animals, inspire action, and drive meaningful change.
