The Return of Agatha Harkness
When last seen in WandaVision, Agatha Harkness was left powerless and trapped by Wanda Maximoff. In Agatha All Along, the Marvel witch is back and determined to reclaim her magic. The new Marvel Television series debuts September 18 on Disney+ with two episodes, introducing audiences to a deeper and darker magical world.
A Complex Character Reborn
Kathryn Hahn returns as Agatha, describing the character as layered and vulnerable beneath her sharp edge. Head writer Jac Schaeffer added, “Agatha isn’t about world domination. There’s always something nefarious and complex behind her.” Filming was immersive and intense, with Hahn sharing that scenes often felt like real coven gatherings on set.
The Enchanted Ensemble Cast
Joe Locke plays a mysterious teen with a hidden backstory, hinting that costume designs hold clues to the show’s many twists. Patti LuPone stars as Lilia Calderu, a Sicilian witch turned tarot reader. Aubrey Plaza joins as Rio Vidal, a wild card in the coven who brings unpredictability to every scene.
Ali Ahn and Sasheer Zamata round out the core coven as Alice Wu-Gulliver and Jennifer Kale. Their characters reveal hidden depths and complex bonds with Agatha. Zamata noted, “Agatha has a long history with witches. Jennifer’s relationship with her is love-hate, which makes every scene fun.”
A WandaVision Connection
Debra Jo Rupp reprises her role as Sharon Davis, bringing a nostalgic tie to WandaVision. She said the series was special to film and hopes that feeling resonates with fans. Marvel Studios’ Brad Winderbaum emphasized the show’s practical effects: “There wasn’t a single green screen in sight. Everything you see was really there.”
Genre-Bending Marvel Magic
Executive producer Mary Livanos described Agatha All Along as a mix of music, drama, and comedy. “Witches can be anyone and anything. That’s the magic of this show—its diversity and unpredictability.” With Jac Schaeffer at the helm, the series builds on the spellbinding energy of WandaVision while venturing into new, darker territory.
As Hahn put it, “Our power is in who we are. Our witchiness is our superpower.”
