The newest ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet, the Disney Treasure, has officially been christened. This dazzling ceremony marks a major milestone for The Walt Disney Company. Hosted in New York City, the event featured appearances by CEO Bob Iger and Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro.
A Celebration of Disney Storytelling
“For more than 100 years, Disney stories have brought joy and wonder to audiences worldwide,” Iger said. “Since the launch of Disney Cruise Line in 1998, our ships have become ambassadors of Disney’s world-class storytelling, bringing the magic of our theme parks to guests across the globe.”
To celebrate the new ship’s adventurous spirit, Disney lit up the sky with dazzling drone displays. These featured fan-favorite characters such as Madame Leota, Genie, and Dante from Coco, creating a magical atmosphere above the crowd.
A Magical and Modern Blessing
After a stunning performance by award-winning singer-songwriter Jordin Sparks, voices from across The Walt Disney Company joined in a special blessing. This marked a new take on maritime tradition, where a ship is blessed before setting sail. Instead of breaking a physical bottle, drones created a sparkling champagne bottle in the sky.
In a touching twist, Disney named its employees, cast members, Imagineers, and crew as the honorary godparents of the Disney Treasure. This gesture symbolized a company-wide celebration and a shared commitment to the future.
Growth on the Horizon
“This is an unprecedented era of growth for Disney Experiences,” D’Amaro explained. “We are more than doubling our fleet to 13 ships by 2031 so that we can bring Disney cruise vacations to even more families around the globe.”
The Disney Treasure represents a new chapter in cruise experiences, blending iconic storytelling with immersive, family-friendly innovation.
Maiden Voyage Ahead
Set to begin sailing on December 21, 2024, the Disney Treasure features experiences from Disney, Pixar, Star Wars, Marvel, and Disney Parks. Highlights include the first Haunted Mansion-themed bar, a Coco-inspired theatrical dining experience, and a Broadway-style Moana stage show.
