Disney Cruise Line’s newest ship, the Disney Treasure, has officially been christened in a spectacular ceremony, marking a historic milestone for the company. Bob Iger, CEO of The Walt Disney Company, and Josh D’Amaro, Chairman of Disney Experiences, traveled to New York City to celebrate this magical moment.
“For more than 100 years, Disney stories have brought joy and wonder to audiences worldwide,” Iger said during the ceremony. “Since the launch of Disney Cruise Line in 1998, our ships have become ambassadors of Disney’s world-class storytelling, bringing the magic of our theme parks to guests across the globe.”
In a celebratory tribute to the adventurous stories represented onboard the new ship, Disney Cruise Line lit up the sky with drones depicting beloved Disney characters, including Madame Leota from the Haunted Mansion, Genie from the Walt Disney Studios Animation film, “Aladdin” and Dante from the Pixar Studios film, “Coco.” Following a stunning performance by award-winning singer-songwriter Jordin Sparks, voices from across The Walt Disney Company recited a blessing to bestow good fortune upon the Disney Treasure and its travelers, while a bottle of champagne created from glimmering drones sparkled across the sky. This finale embodied the longstanding maritime tradition of christening, when a godparent blesses a ship before its maiden voyage. In this case, The Walt Disney Company cast, crew, Imagineers and employees around the world have the honorary role of godparent for the Disney Treasure. The Disney Treasure will set sail on its maiden voyage next month on Dec. 21, 2024, bringing adventurous stories from Disney, Pixar, Star Wars, Marvel and Disney Parks to life at sea. The impressive lineup of new venues includes the first ever bar inspired by the Haunted Mansion a theatrical dining experience themed to the Pixar Studios film, “Coco,” and an original Broadway-style stage show honoring the Walt Disney Animation Studios film, “Moana.”
