Disney recently unveiled The Last Verse, a heartfelt short film honoring the legendary Sherman Brothers and their iconic song, “It’s a Small World.” This moving tribute features a previously unheard verse penned by Richard M. Sherman before passing in May 2024. The verse shared with Disney CEO Bob Iger in 2023 serves as a final gift from the songwriter who, alongside his brother Robert, shaped the soundtrack of Disney history.+
Bob Iger reflected on the impact of the short:
“Hearing Richard Sherman recite the final verse to ‘It’s a Small World’ will forever stay with me. This film is a tribute to the Sherman Brothers’ immeasurable contributions and the countless memories they helped create for audiences worldwide.”
Directed by award-winning filmmaker Henry Alex Rubin, The Last Verse captures the six-decade history of “It’s a Small World,” a song that has resonated across cultures since its debut at the 1964-65 New York World’s Fair. From Disneyland Park to Disney Parks worldwide, the song remains a timeless symbol of unity and hope.
