Aloha Spirit Expands with the New Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows

Disney Vacation Club members and guests have a stunning new destination to call home at Walt Disney World Resort with the opening of the Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows. Inspired by Polynesian culture and Disney storytelling, this beautifully designed expansion opened its doors on December 17, 2024, marking a new chapter in the resort’s storied legacy.

The concept for a multi-story Polynesian tower traces back to 1966, when Walt Disney introduced plans for the Florida Project, including theme resort hotels with distinct international styles. While the original tower design never materialized, Disney Imagineers have brought the dream to life with a modern interpretation that celebrates the vibrant traditions of the South Pacific.

Drawing from the original Polynesian design, the Island Tower boasts intricate patterns inspired by Polynesian tattoos, natural materials, and lush terrace gardens. These spaces offer breathtaking views of Seven Seas Lagoon, the Magic Kingdom fireworks, and Disney’s scenic golf courses, creating an oasis of relaxation and storytelling.

Guests can enjoy the brand-new Cove Pool area, complete with a zero-entry swimming pool and a Moana-themed splash area called Moana’s Voyage. For the first time, the resort also features a fitness center and the Wailulu Bar & Grill, the perfect spot to savor meals with panoramic views of the Seven Seas Lagoon and Magic Kingdom fireworks.

The Island Tower expansion also celebrates the contributions of cast members who embody the Aloha Spirit, like Iosefa “Sefa” Leapai and Ervin “E.B.” Bracy, both recipients of the Walt Disney Legacy Award. These dedicated Bell Services cast members have been welcoming guests since the 1970s, creating magical moments that make the Polynesian Village Resort unforgettable.

Sefa, who arrived at the resort in 1978, continues to bring the islands to life through his music and hospitality, while E.B., a cast member since 1973, describes the resort as love at first sight. Their warmth and dedication are woven into the resort’s fabric, creating experiences that inspire families to return again and again.

The Island Tower is a destination that blends the adventurous spirit of Polynesia with the comforts of Disney storytelling. From the resort monorail to the lush terrace gardens and movie nights under the stars, every detail is designed to create memories that last a lifetime.

As Sefa shared, “It comes from the heart. It’s about being kind, going above and beyond, making people feel special.” With the Island Tower, the Aloha Spirit continues to grow, inviting even more families to create their own magical stories at Walt Disney World Resort.

The Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows is now open and ready to welcome guests for a lifetime of vacations. Whether it’s your first visit or your fiftieth, the spirit of Polynesia is calling.
