Behind the Dreams: Pixar’s Dream Productions Streams on Disney+

A New Journey Inside Riley’s Mind

Disney and Pixar’s Dream Productions premiered on December 11, 2024, on Disney+. This four-episode series takes fans back into the rich and whimsical world of Riley’s mind. Riley (voiced by Kensington Tallman) navigates growing up, while a quirky behind-the-scenes crew crafts her dreams.

Set between Inside Out and the upcoming Inside Out 2, the show follows Joy (Amy Poehler) and the other Core Emotions as they send complex memories to Dream Productions. Each night, this studio produces dreams—on time, and on budget. The show’s mockumentary style reveals the hilarious highs and lows of dream-making.

In an image from Dream Productions, Paula (voiced by Paula Pell), a purple, anthropomorphic, jellybean-like director, wears a purple wig, orange glasses, and an orange necktie as she smiles at the camera from her director’s chair. To her left is Xeni (voiced by Richard Ayoade), a turquoise, anthropomorphic, jellybean-like director with blue hair, brown glasses, and an orange striped turtleneck sweater. He also sits on a director’s chair. The background features a buffet of food inside a bustling soundstage.
In Pixar Animation Studios’ all-new series “Dream Productions,” acclaimed dream director Paula Persimmon (voice of Paula Pell) faces a nightmare of her own: Trying to create the next hit dream after being paired up with Xeni (voice of Richard Ayoade), a smug daydream director looking to step up into the big leagues of night dreams. Written and directed by Mike Jones and produced by Jaclyn Simon, Pixar Animation Studios’ hilarious, mockumentary-style series streams exclusively on Disney+ beginning Dec. 11, 2024. © 2024 Disney/Pixar. Meet the Creative Minds Behind Riley’s Dreams

Leading the charge at Dream Productions is Paula Persimmon (voiced by Paula Pell). Passionate but perpetually overwhelmed, Paula works hard to deliver Riley’s next dream masterpiece. She finds herself paired with Xeni (Richard Ayoade), an ambitious daydream director eager to make his mark.

Paula’s crew includes:

  • Janelle (Ally Maki), a quick-thinking assistant director who deserves more credit.
  • Jean (Maya Rudolph), the no-nonsense production chief who keeps chaos in check.

“I love [my character] Paula because I relate to her so much,” Pell said. “She’s flustered, anxious, but determined to do good work. That kind of comedy is my sweet spot.”

Embracing Change Through Comedy

Dream Productions blends humor and vulnerability as Paula wrestles with change. Pell explained, “Everything is different. Young people, the world, the industry—it’s all evolving.” This theme of adapting to new realities resonates strongly with audiences.

Directed by Mike Jones and produced by Jaclyn Simon, the series delivers Pixar’s signature storytelling style—emotional, imaginative, and beautifully relatable. The mockumentary format gives viewers a fun peek into the creative madness of dream production.

Why Dream Productions Deserves a Spot on Your Watchlist

Fans of Inside Out will love returning to Riley’s world, but the series stands strong on its own. With fresh faces, quirky humor, and heartfelt lessons, Dream Productions offers an inside look at what it means to grow up, adapt, and keep dreaming.

All four episodes are now streaming exclusively on Disney+. Don’t miss this heartwarming return to Riley’s subconscious—and be sure to catch Inside Out 2 in theaters next year!
