Disney’s Animal Kingdom is celebrating an exciting milestone as Bakso, a Sumatran tiger cub born in September 2024, makes his official onstage debut at the Maharajah Jungle Trek. Guests visiting the park now have the unique opportunity to see Bakso as he explores his habitat alongside his mother, Sohni. However, keepers are allowing Bakso to decide when he wants to be onstage, so his appearances may vary throughout the day.

Bakso’s Journey: Sumatran Tiger Cub at Maharajah Jungle Trek
Over the past several months, Bakso has grown right before our eyes. From his first veterinary check-up to playful moments with his mother. Disney fans have followed his journey through the Tiger TV Tuesdays series on the Disney Parks YouTube channel, which showcased his weekly growth and preparations for his big debut. Every Tuesday, viewers watched as Bakso became more curious, playful, and independent—getting ready for the day when he would step into his habitat at Maharajah Jungle Trek.

Conservation Efforts: Protecting the Endangered Sumatran Tiger
Bakso’s birth is a crucial step in global conservation efforts for Sumatran tigers, a critically endangered species with fewer than 600 remaining in the wild and in managed care. His arrival is part of Disney’s ongoing collaboration with the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) and the Species Survival Plan (SSP), which work to maintain genetic diversity and ensure the long-term survival of endangered species.

In addition to caring for animals within the park, Disney remains committed to wildlife conservation around the world. Since 1995, the Disney Conservation Fund has provided support to 15 organizations dedicated to protecting tigers and their habitats. This effort reinforces Disney’s mission to inspire and educate guests about the importance of preserving wildlife.

Guests exploring Maharajah Jungle Trek now have the chance to watch Bakso interact with Sohni, play in his new environment, and continue growing under the care of Disney’s dedicated animal experts. His presence at Disney’s Animal Kingdom is not only a delight for visitors but also a powerful reminder of the importance of wildlife conservation and efforts to protect endangered species like the Sumatran tiger.

Bakso may not be onstage during all park hours, as his keepers prioritize his well-being by allowing him to choose when he wants to be in the habitat. If you’re planning a visit, be sure to stop by Maharajah Jungle Trek for a chance to see this incredible tiger cub in person!
