This Week at Walt Disney World – January 15, 2025

Celebrating 50 Years of Space Mountain

This week marks a monumental celebration at Magic Kingdom as Space Mountain officially turns 50 years old. The legendary indoor roller coaster, which opened on January 15, 1975, received a golden glow-up for the occasion, lighting up Tomorrowland in style. Fun fact: the Carousel of Progress also opened the very same day in 1975, and both attractions continue to inspire generations of Disney fans.

Guests visiting this week were greeted with nostalgic nods to the past, including tributes to the original 1975 dedication, which featured astronauts and celebrities. It was a cosmic celebration, complete with retro-themed merchandise and Space Mountain photo ops.

This week is packed with Disney updates, news, and history!

Goodbye Dinoland, Hello Expansion

Big changes are happening over at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. As of this week, Dinoland U.S.A. has officially closed to make way for the next evolution of the park. While Disney has not confirmed the full details, concept art teased at D23 hints at possible experiences inspired by Central and South America.

The land’s closure marks the end of an era, but the beginning of something even more exciting. Stay tuned as construction continues and new details emerge!

Magic Kingdom Construction Continues

Elsewhere at Magic Kingdom, construction activity is picking up. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is undergoing track removal and refurbishment, with new construction walls popping up throughout Frontierland. A large crane has also appeared at Astro Orbiter, suggesting more updates on the way for Tomorrowland.
