As we slither into the Year of the Snake, what better way to celebrate than by honoring some of Disney’s most memorable serpents? From mischievous villains to loyal companions, these snakes have charmed their way into Disney history. Whether sneaky, sassy, or downright sinister, here’s a look at some of the most iconic Disney snakes.
Kaa – The Jungle Book (1967)
Kaa, voiced by Disney Legend Sterling Holloway, is a hypnotic menace in The Jungle Book. His signature spiraling eyes and soothing yet eerie voice make him a formidable foe to Mowgli. Beware—one look into Kaa’s gaze and you might just find yourself under his spell!
Juju – The Princess and the Frog (2009)
Mama Odie’s ever-loyal sidekick, Juju, may be a snake, but he’s anything but scary. This lovable reptile assists with all of Mama Odie’s magical antics and transformations. Keep an eye out for Juju when Tiana’s Bayou Adventure opens—he might just make a surprise appearance!
Sir Hiss – Robin Hood (1973)
Sir Hiss is the ever-loyal (and ever-annoying) advisor to Prince John. With his nasal voice and sneaky schemes, Sir Hiss often finds himself in the middle of the action—usually against his will! Like Kaa, he possesses the ability to hypnotize, but even his powers couldn’t stop Robin Hood’s heroic deeds.
Gary – Zootopia 2 (2025)
Disney’s newest snake slithers onto the scene in Zootopia 2, arriving in theaters November 26, 2025. Described as a “creepy, slithery, highly venomous viper,” Gary keeps Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde on high alert in what promises to be their most dangerous case yet.
Indiana Jones’ Worst Nightmare – Indiana Jones Adventure & Films
Dr. Jones’ fear of snakes is legendary, but Disney fans can’t help but admire the dozens of slithering creatures that appear throughout the Indiana Jones films and attractions. Whether in Raiders of the Lost Ark or Disneyland’s Indiana Jones Adventure, these hissing foes always add to the suspense.
Celia’s Hair – Monsters, Inc. (2001)
Okay, technically not a single snake, but Celia’s fabulous hairdo is made up of multiple slithering serpents! The sassiest hair in Monstropolis, her live snake locks have a mind of their own, reacting to her emotions. No wonder Mike Wazowski was so nervous about her haircut!
Jafar – Aladdin (1992)
Jafar’s affinity for serpents is undeniable. From his hypnotic snake staff to his dramatic transformation into a towering cobra, this villain embodies the cunning and danger of a true snake. Fans can even see Snake Jafar in action during Fantasmic! at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, where he battles Mickey in a spectacular showdown.
Madam Mim – The Sword in the Stone (1963)
The unpredictable and shape-shifting Madam Mim takes on many forms during her legendary duel with Merlin—including a striped serpent! She may not be as powerful as her opponent, but her ability to slither into battle adds to her chaotic magic.
Loki – Thor: Ragnarok (2017)
Loki’s shape-shifting trickery is legendary, but one of his most infamous pranks involves turning into a snake. As Thor recalls in Thor: Ragnarok, Loki once disguised himself as a snake, only to transform back and surprise his brother with a vicious attack. Classic Loki!

Snake Guards – Hercules (1997)
In Hercules, two fearsome snake guards serve as baby Hercules’ would-be assassins under Hades’ orders. While their mission fails spectacularly thanks to Herc’s divine strength, these serpentine foes add a dose of villainous intrigue to the story.
Snake Guards – Aladdin (1992)
Beyond Jafar’s infamous transformation, the palace guards in Aladdin wear striking cobra-shaped headdresses. This subtle yet effective design choice reinforces the film’s recurring snake imagery, further emphasizing Jafar’s serpentine nature. OK maybe not a snake, but I’m trying!!
