One will plunge visitors into an intergalactic battle, while the other will let them step into Tony Stark’s world and test his latest technological innovations firsthand.
Avengers Infinity Defense: A Multiversal Battle Awaits
Disney has revealed more details about Avengers Infinity Defense. Guests will assemble with the Avengers to battle King Thanos, a powerful new villain, across multiple worlds. Black Panther, Hulk, and Ant-Man will fight by your side in an epic multiversal clash. Quick reflexes and teamwork will be essential to victory.
Stark Flight Lab: Testing Iron Man’s Tech in a High-Flying Adventure
The second attraction, Stark Flight Lab, was also discussed at SXSW’s The Future of World-Building at Disney panel. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige and Walt Disney Imagineering Chief Creative Officer Bruce Vaughn shared fresh details about how this ride will push the limits of theme park technology.
Guests will step inside Tony Stark’s workshop and board gyro-kinetic pods that roll along a track before a giant robotic arm lifts them into the air. This setup will allow for high-speed, aerial maneuvers inspired by Iron Man and other Avengers. The transition from a track system to a robot arm-based ride experience is a theme park first, designed to create an exhilarating, flight-like sensation.
At SXSW, Robert Downey Jr. made a surprise appearance, bringing his signature charm and enthusiasm. He praised Imagineers as the “living embodiment of the Stark Enterprises mission statement”, highlighting their curiosity, passion, and inventiveness. He also humorously referred to Walt Disney Imagineering headquarters as the “Area 51 of fun,” emphasizing the secrecy surrounding attraction development.
Downey Jr. expressed excitement about being part of this creative journey. “This isn’t a one-time deal—you need more me!”. His involvement adds authenticity to the experience, ensuring that Stark Flight Lab embodies Tony Stark’s inventive spirit. Imagineers have also incorporated DUM-E, Stark’s beloved robotic assistant. The robot is core to the attraction’s storyline, making the experience even more immersive.
Disney Imagineering: Pushing the Boundaries of Theme Park Innovation
Bruce Vaughn explained that unlike traditional theme park rides, where technology is hidden behind immersive storytelling, Stark Flight Lab will put the technology front and center as part of the experience. The team even used motion capture and virtual mirrors to ensure that the robotic elements move as naturally as possible, enhancing the realism of the ride.
