It All Leads to Doom
Marvel Studios announced that production has officially begun on Avengers: Doomsday, opening exclusively in theaters on May 1, 2026. In a global, multi-hour livestream event, the studio pulled back the curtain on its biggest ensemble cast yet—and teased the rise of one of Marvel’s most iconic villains.
The cast list is staggering. Returning heroes include Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Anthony Mackie (Captain America), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Sebastian Stan (Winter Soldier), Letitia Wright (Shuri/Black Panther), Simu Liu (Shang-Chi), Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova), and Wyatt Russell (U.S. Agent).
Also joining the fray: Tenoch Huerta Mejía (Namor), Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Thing), Danny Ramirez (Falcon), David Harbour (Red Guardian), Winston Duke (M’Baku), and Hannah John-Kamen (Ghost).
From the multiverse side, Marvel fans will be thrilled to see legendary X-Men return: Patrick Stewart (Professor X), Ian McKellen (Magneto), Alan Cumming (Nightcrawler), Rebecca Romijn (Mystique), and James Marsden (Cyclops). Even Channing Tatum is finally making his long-rumored debut as Gambit.
The Fantastic Four also factor in, with Pedro Pascal and Vanessa Kirby appearing as Reed Richards and Sue Storm, ahead of their solo film. Lewis Pullman will portray Sentry, further expanding Marvel’s powerful lineup.
But the biggest shocker of all? Robert Downey Jr., a Disney Legend and the original Iron Man himself, returns—not as a hero, but as the villainous Doctor Victor Von Doom. This twist has set the internet ablaze, as fans speculate how the multiverse narrative will allow for this dark transformation.
The Road to May 1, 2026
Directed by the Russo Brothers, with a screenplay from Michael Waldron, Avengers: Doomsday begins filming next month in London. Plot details remain tightly under wraps, but it’s clear the film will be a multiverse collision unlike anything the MCU has done before.
Conspicuously absent from the announced cast are Spider-Man (Tom Holland), Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), Captain Marvel (Brie Larson), and Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen)—leaving fans wondering whether surprise cameos are in store.
With heroes, anti-heroes, mutants, and Fantastic Four legends all sharing the screen, Marvel’s next chapter is shaping up to be its boldest yet. And as the tagline says, it all leads to Doom.
