Disney’s BoardWalk continues to evolve, what’s changed March 2025, and now we have even more updates to share since our original blog covering the big changes underway. From reopened shops to future closures, here’s what’s new and what could be next on the horizon.
Screen Door Reopens with a New Look
One of the most noticeable changes is the reopening of the Screen Door General Store. After being behind construction walls for weeks, the shop has emerged with a refreshed look that brings a brighter, more modern feel to its classic charm. It’s the first step in a phased retail refresh that will eventually include neighboring stores.
Character Carnival Now Closed for Refurbishment
With the Screen Door complete, attention has now turned to Character Carnival, which is currently closed for refurbishment. The store is part of a connected retail footprint shared with Screen Door and Thimbles & Threads.
Thimbles remains open, offering a unique glimpse into the aesthetic transition. Guests can now see the “before and after” look by comparing Thimbles & Threads to the newly reimagined Screen Door. images Below – Thumbles & Threads (Before Referb) and Screen Door with new floor and color scheme (After Referb) – I for one am a fan of the new ‘clean’ look.
What’s in store for Character Carnival? While Disney hasn’t revealed specific plans, the thoughtful phasing suggests a coordinated approach to modernizing all three shops while keeping at least two open throughout the process.
Big River Still Vacant
Big River Grille & Brewing Works remains closed, and no replacement has been announced yet. It continues to sit empty, raising questions about what kind of dining concept, or toher concept might take its place.
Jellyrolls Still Open—For Now
Though Jellyrolls announced its final performance will be April 19, 2025, the venue is still open as of now. No official relocation site has been confirmed, but as mentioned in our original blog, the decision has sparked plenty of fan discussion and speculation.

Will the BoardWalk Carnival Games Stay?
Another BoardWalk staple drawing attention is the BoardWalk Carnival games. These Carnival game booths typically open in the evenings—weather permitting—but operate on a loose schedule. As renovations continue, some fans wonder whether these games might also be phased out or updated. For now, they remain open and part of the BoardWalk’s unique charm.
With store refurbishments progressing and entertainment offerings shifting, Disney BoardWalk in March is shaping up to be another year of transformation. March has brought visible progress, and I expect even more updates throughout the year.
