Descendants 5 Begins Production with New Cast and Returning Favorites

The next chapter of Disney’s popular Descendants franchise is officially underway. Descendants 5, a direct follow-up to Descendants: The Rise of Red, has entered production, and fans have just received their first behind-the-scenes look at the cast on set.

The cast of the fifth Descendants movie poses for a group photo in costume on the first day of filming.

Returning to lead the film are Kylie Cantrall as Red (daughter of the Queen of Hearts) and Malia Baker as Chloe (daughter of Cinderella), joined once again by Leonardo Nam as Maddox Hatter. But they’re not alone—this time, the story expands with a new generation of VKs (Villain Kids) and AKs (Auradon Kids).

Meet the New Characters in Descendants 5

New faces joining the magical mischief include:

  • Liamani Segura as Pink, Red’s sister
  • Brendon Tremblay as Max Hatter, son of Maddox
  • Alexandro Byrd as Luis Madrigal, son of Luisa Madrigal
  • Kiara Romero as Hazel Hook, daughter of Captain Hook
  • Joel Oulette as Robbie, son of Robin Hood
  • Zavien Garrett as Felix, son of Dr. Facilier
  • Ryan McEwen and Dayton Paradis as the twin sons of Mr. Smee

This ever-growing ensemble brings even more personality, music, and magic to the Descendants universe.

What Is Descendants 5 About?

Set primarily in present-day Wonderland, Descendants 5 picks up shortly after the time-traveling events of The Rise of Red. Now, Red and Chloe must navigate the consequences of their actions, proving that there are always risks when you alter the fabric of time.

The central theme? Discovering what “happily ever after” really means when you come from a legacy of royalty—and villainy.

Creative Team and Choreography

Kimmy Gatewood returns to direct and co-produce, with a script written by Tamara Chestna, Dan Frey, and Ru Sommer. Longtime Descendants producers Suzanne Todd and Gary Marsh are also back.

The music and dance numbers—a highlight of every Descendants film—will be choreographed by Emilio Dosal, an Emmy®-winning talent bringing fresh energy to the franchise.

The Legacy Lives On

President of Disney Branded Television, Ayo Davis, summed it up perfectly: “The love for the Descendants franchise runs deep… Our next movie will build on that legacy and deliver even more of the magic, music, and heart that make Descendants so special.”

Past stars like Kristin Chenoweth, Brandy, Dove Cameron, Sofia Carson, and now Kylie Cantrall and Malia Baker, have all helped shape Descendants into a multigenerational favorite.

A Live Performance Tour Is Coming Too

To add even more excitement, the “Descendants/ZOMBIES: Worlds Collide Tour” kicks off this summer across North America. Cast members from both franchises—including Cantrall, Baker, Dara Reneé, and Joshua Colley—will bring live music and dance to fans everywhere.
