How Disney Lookout Cay Is Protecting Birds in The Bahamas

A Creative Earth Day Solution

In celebration of Earth Day, the Disney Parks Blog highlighted an innovative and surprising way Disney is supporting wildlife at Disney Lookout Cay Conservation at Lighthouse Point.

To track the elusive great lizard cuckoo, Disneyโ€™s Animals, Science and Environment team 3D-printed a life-sized bird model, painted it by hand, and used it to safely tag and study the real thing.

Bird Science Meets Technology

The 17-inch bird model was paired with sound recordings to attract the species, allowing researchers to place a small transmitter and begin monitoring its activity.

The team also created models of other native birds, like the Bahamas mockingbird and Kirtlandโ€™s warbler, continuing Disneyโ€™s conservation work in the region.
