Star Wars Fortnite Premiere Changes the Game
The galaxy just got a lot closer.
For the first time ever, a Disney+ series will premiere inside a video game. On May 2, 2025 — two days ahead of its Disney+ debut — Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld will premiere exclusively within Fortnite. The event marks the latest and most expansive collaboration between Disney and Epic Games, showcasing what’s possible when the worlds of streaming and interactive gaming collide.
Announced at Star Wars Celebration, this historic crossover launches with Fortnite: GALACTIC BATTLE — an all-new Star Wars-themed season beginning May 2. Players will be treated to weekly updates with new characters, ships, and challenges inspired by the Star Wars universe.
Galactic Gameplay and In-Game Debut
Fans can suit up as characters like Darth Jar Jar and Emperor Palpatine, pilot iconic ships like X-wings and TIE Fighters, and prepare for an in-game event titled Death Star Sabotage. But the real headline is the debut of Tales of the Underworld — screened first inside Fortnite’s Star Wars Watch Party island.
Created using Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN), the Watch Party island offers an immersive Star Wars environment where players can watch the first two episodes of the animated anthology series. Viewings begin May 2 at 10 a.m. ET. As if that weren’t enough, players can battle waves of Stormtroopers using lightsabers and blasters, adding gameplay excitement to the watch party experience.
Link Your Accounts and Unlock a Stormtrooper
Starting today, fans can link their Epic Games and MyDisney accounts. Eligible players who connect their accounts will unlock a First Order Stormtrooper Outfit to wear in Fortnite — a sleek celebration of the event and a hint at future Disney and Epic integrations. According to Disney and Epic, this is just the beginning of a broader entertainment universe that connects streaming and gameplay.
“For the first time, Disney+ is premiering a show inside a game… giving fans an exciting first look at the kinds of experiences they can expect,” said Sean Shoptaw, Executive Vice President of Disney Games & Digital Entertainment.
“We are reimagining what’s possible with immersive storytelling in Fortnite,” added Adam Sussman, President of Epic Games.
