Raise a glass, me hearties—Adventureland at Walt Disney World is about to get more spirited! The Beak and Barrel Tavern, a brand-new Pirates of the Caribbean-themed experience, is officially coming to Magic Kingdom later this year, bringing with it a rowdy mix of sea shanties, enchanted bottles, and buccaneer tales told over mugs of grog.
This exciting new tavern was officially announced during Destination D23 in September 2023, and we just got our best look yet at what to expect.
A Legendary New Tale in Adventureland
This immersive tavern is set to expand the world of Pirates of the Caribbean beyond the attraction’s iconic boat ride. It will take over the former location of The Pirates League, a makeover experience similar to the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, where young guests were transformed into pirates. The Pirates League officially closed in 2020. Positioned just outside the attraction—across from the Tortuga Tavern and not far from the Jack Sparrow meet-and-greet, which recently moved to the outside of Plaza del Sol Caribe Bazaar—The Beak and Barrel is a natural extension of the swashbuckling story we all know and love.
The Back Story
The tavern is the brainchild of the legendary pirate Captain Meridian “Merry” Goldwyn, a famed rumrunner, and her talkative first mate Rummy, a lively parrot perched high above the bar. If Rummy looks familiar, that’s no accident—this chatterbox strongly resembles the original Barker Bird that once greeted guests outside Pirates of the Caribbean. He’s been restored to a new roost, ready to toast and entertain.
Inside The Beak and Barrel
Disney has teased several themed spaces within the tavern that promise a treasure trove of visual storytelling. Let’s break them down:
The Mess
Originally the mess hall of Spanish soldiers, this main room is now a lively pirate gathering spot. With long communal tables, dripping candlewax, and a skull-shaped bar constructed from a shipwreck’s salvaged stern. Here you’ll spot the Enchanted Rum Bottle, gifted by Tia Dalma, which may be the secret behind the tavern’s magical brews.
The Captains’ Quarters
This intimate space once belonged to a Spanish commander, but pirates have left their mark. Slashed tapestries, burned edges, and missing artwork set the mood. Above the fireplace sit five bottled ships, said to represent pirate crews united in rebellion. On rare occasions, these ships reportedly spring to life in a battle at sea—a hint at potential show effects?
What We’re Most Excited About
We don’t have a menu yet, but Disney confirmed that The Beak and Barrel will serve adult beverages. Making it a likely fan-favorite spot in a park known for its limited alcohol offerings. Based on the tavern’s enchanted theming and Disney’s recent success with immersive lounges like Oga’s Cantina and Trader Sam’s, we expect this space to be more than just a bar—it’s an attraction in its own right.
This addition breathes new life into Adventureland. Weaving the Pirates of the Caribbean storyline deeper into the park’s fabric. Offering an atmospheric spot to unwind. We can’t wait to see if the Jack Sparrow meet and greet becomes a permanent fixture next door, possibly making this a prime stop for fans seeking pirate encounters, sea stories, and enchanted toasts.
What’s Next?
Disney has yet to share the exact opening date or menu details. We’ll keep our telescope trained on the horizon for the next wave of announcements.
