Big City Greens 100th Episode: A Wild Celebration
It’s a big milestone for the Green family—Big City Greens is officially celebrating its 100th episode! The fan-favorite animated series hits this landmark moment with a brand-new adventure premiering May 3 on Disney Channel and May 7 on Disney+. The Houghton brothers are pulling out all the stops to mark this wild ride with a story as outrageous, heartfelt, and hilarious as the 99 episodes before it.
Created by brothers Chris and Shane Houghton, Big City Greens premiered in June 2018. The show follows 10-year-old Cricket Green and his quirky country family—Tilly, Bill, and Gramma Alice—who move to the big city and find themselves in one unpredictable situation after another. Inspired by the Houghtons’ upbringing in small-town Michigan, the series blends zany comedy with genuine heart.
Celebrating a Big City Greens Milestone
Reaching 100 episodes is a big deal, and the team behind Big City Greens knew they had to go bigger than ever before. According to Chris and Shane, crafting this episode brought a lot of pressure, but the result is a bold, emotional, and laugh-out-loud story that looks back at everything fans have loved so far.
The episode features the return of familiar faces, wild antics (including monstrous chickens), and even a special appearance by Disney Legend Mark Hamill. Cricket, Tilly, Bill, and Gramma Alice dive into their 100th outing with everything from spiritual séances to mysterious deliveries—classic Big City Greens chaos.
“We had to go crazier than we ever have,” says Shane. “It’s a celebration and a look back at all 99 episodes that came before it.”
The Road to 100: From Shorts to a Feature Film
Over the years, the Green family has popped up far beyond the main show. They’ve starred in Disney Channel and Disney+ interstitials, musical shorts like Broken Karaoke, and quirky animations in How NOT to Draw and Chibi Tiny Tales. In 2023, the series even broke new ground by teaming up with ESPN for a fully animated NHL broadcast powered by motion-capture tech—the NHL Big City Greens Classic.
Then, in 2024, Big City Greens the Movie: Spacecation blasted the family into their first full-length feature film. Produced using Epic’s Unreal Engine, the film was a dream project for the Houghton brothers and a major milestone for the show’s talented animation crew.
Looking Back—and Ahead
With nine years of production under their belts, Chris and Shane have grown alongside the series. They’ve worked with many of the same crew members since Season 1, and they credit the show’s success to the collaboration and creativity of everyone involved.
“Animation is a team sport,” Chris says. “We have the honor of leading this incredible team and bringing all these amazing ideas to life.”
The brothers recently signed an overall deal with Disney Branded Television, ensuring that the Greens will have even more adventures—and likely more surprises—on the horizon.
“We’re not the spring chickens we used to be,” jokes Shane, “but we’re more proud than ever of what we’ve built.”
Fans can expect the same blend of humor, emotion, and out-of-the-box storytelling that made Big City Greens a hit in the first place. With this 100th episode celebration, the show doesn’t just look back—it sets the stage for a new chapter filled with possibility.
