Beginning Friday, players can now experience an interactive, real-time chat with the iconic Star Wars villain, powered by the unmistakable voice of Disney Legend James Earl Jones.
This groundbreaking experience isn’t just a voiceover. Thanks to advanced AI technology, players can talk directly to Vader, who responds with the deep, commanding tones that defined the galaxy’s most feared Sith Lord.
Honoring a Legacy Through Innovation
James Earl Jones, who passed away in 2024, left behind an iconic vocal performance that continues to shape how audiences connect with Darth Vader. In close consultation with his family, Disney and Lucasfilm partnered with Epic Games to preserve that legacy, giving fans a respectful, immersive way to engage with the character.
“James Earl felt that the voice of Darth Vader was inseparable from the story of Star Wars,” said his family. “We hope this collaboration allows longtime fans and new generations alike to share in the enjoyment of this iconic character.”
A Galaxy of Transparency and Safety
Epic Games designed this innovation with responsibility at its core. Players under 13 (or under their country’s digital age of consent) must have parental approval to converse with Darth Vader. All voice audio is securely processed to create Vader’s responses, but neither audio nor transcriptions are stored.
Players can also report anything Vader says, reinforcing a commitment to transparency, safety, and accountability.
