Disney Mermaid and Villain Shows Opens at Hollywood Studios

Two highly anticipated productions are now delighting guests at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. This behind-the-scenes preview explores the creative process behind the Disney Villains: Unfairly Everafter and a look at the new Little Mermaid: A Musical Adventure, both now open at Walt Disney World.

A Musical Trial of Villains

Inside Sunset Showcase, Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After welcomes guests into the shadowy realm of the Magic Mirror. The new show blends music, mischief, and theatrical flair as Cruella de Vil, Captain Hook, and Maleficent argue who has been treated most unfairly.

This isn’t just another stage show. Music producer Doug Morris created a brand-new anthem for the Magic Mirror, setting the tone for a lineup of villainous songs. Director Mark Renfrow reveals how each character’s musical moment tells a unique story, layered with charm, humor, and dramatic flair.

Conductor Roger Butterley elevates the experience with bold orchestration, combining classic villain motifs and powerful new compositions. Music arranger Tim Heintz explains the show’s structure, centered around three iconic villains. Executive Creative Director Tom Bazzano highlights the way music, visuals, and character arcs lock into place for a truly immersive experience.

Ariel Returns in a Reimagined Classic

Not far away in Animation Courtyard.  The Little Mermaid—A Musical Adventure takes over the former Voyage of the Little Mermaid space.  This reimagined production captures her dream of life beyond the sea.  Using a blend of physical sets, puppetry, live actors, and digital effects.

Every shimmering detail, from Ariel’s tail to the ocean-inspired lighting design, invites guests deeper into the story. The new show features bold re-staging of classic songs like “Part of Your World. “Kiss the Girl.” and “Poor Unfortunate Souls,” reimagined to bring more heart and magic to the theater.

This updated version celebrates Ariel’s courage and curiosity with staging and effects that redefine what a theme park musical can be.
