He’s back—and today’s the day! Stitch, one of Disney’s most unpredictable characters, returns to the big screen today, May 24, in the highly anticipated live-action reimagining of Lilo & Stitch.
From Chaos to Classic: Stitch’s Journey
More than twenty years after his debut in the original 2002 animated classic, Stitch has grown into a global icon. He has appeared in animated sequels, a TV series, video games, theme parks, and now a theatrical reboot. Stitch’s adventures, from chaos in Kauai to galactic mischief, have continued to win hearts across generations.
“Stitch is an example of what Disney does best,” said David Greenbaum, President of Disney Live Action and 20th Century Studios. “An extraordinary animated film from 2002 that becomes a series that then over time creates a real fandom, which leads to us looking at the idea of creating this wonderful film that we now are bringing out to the world.”
Stitch Strikes Again… Virtually This Time
He did it again! In a fun nod to his notorious 2004 Magic Kingdom debut, Disney Parks posted a playful video this morning showing Stitch virtually toilet papering Cinderella Castle. The moment mirrors the opening of Stitch’s Great Escape! when Stitch “crashed” Walt Disney World and made his presence known by decorating the castle in chaos. Thankfully, this time the mayhem was purely digital—no cleanup required!
