Disney Cruise Line has once again been recognized for environmental leadership. From the 2024 Blue Circle Award to long-standing green initiatives across its fleet, the cruise line continues to show what it means to sail responsibly.

2024: Another Blue Circle Award for 12 Years Straight
On June 6, 2025, Disney Cruise Line received the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority’s 2024 Blue Circle Award. This marks the twelfth straight year the Disney Wonder has earned the honor while homeporting in Vancouver. The award celebrates participation in the port’s EcoAction and Energy Action programs, which reward cruise lines for reducing emissions, underwater noise, and air pollutants.
The Disney Wonder uses shore power while docked in Vancouver, shutting off engines and plugging into the city’s grid. This cuts emissions and saves fuel. Disney has also rolled out hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) across its legacy fleet. This renewable diesel comes from recycled oils and animal fats and supports the company’s emissions strategy.

The Next Wave of Eco-Friendly Cruising
Disney is expanding its fleet with sustainability at the forefront. A fourth LNG-powered Wish-class ship will join in 2027. Three more 100,000-gross-ton ships will launch between 2029 and 2031. These vehicles will utilize renewable diesel, methanol, and battery-assisted propulsion.
All future ships will be shore-power compatible, allowing reduced emissions at ports. Disney is also investing in hull design and clean fuel research, including bio-LNG and green methanol.
More Than Recognition: A Broader Impact
Disney Cruise Line’s sustainability efforts influence more than just its fleet. Partnerships with ports support cleaner operations and healthier communities. Vancouver’s shore power program, for example, reduces local air pollution and noise.
Disney also helps advance renewable fuel supply chains by testing and using HVO and LNG. These innovations support global adoption. Guests increasingly prefer brands with clear climate action, and Disney’s track record meets these expectations.
Final Thoughts
With twelve years of recognition and new eco‑friendly ships on the way, Disney Cruise Line is charting a sustainable future. From port technology to clean fuels, every effort helps protect the places Disney sails.
