One Last Look at Muppet Courtyard (Grand Avenue) and Muppet Vision 3D Before It Closes Forever

Muppet Courtyard at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is officially closed, and today was our final change to experience this quirky, detail-filled corner of the park. From the classic Muppet Vision 3D theater to the outrageous wedding reception room upstairs at PizzeRizzo, this area has entertained fans for decades. In this video, we explore it all one last time.

A Tribute to Jim Henson’s Muppet Vision 3D

At the heart of the courtyard is Muppet Vision 3D, the final project personally directed by Jim Henson before his passing in 1990. The attraction officially opened on May 16, 1991—exactly one year after Henson’s death. It has remained nearly unchanged for over three decades, offering a rare time capsule of Muppet humor, heartfelt tribute, and groundbreaking theme park storytelling.

Fun fact: Kermit the Frog is noticeably absent from the pre-show video. Instead, Scooter and the rest of the Muppet crew take over the backstage chaos, adding to the show’s unique and unexpected charm.

PizzeRizzo’s Hidden Gem: The Wedding Reception Room

One of the most bizarre and delightful spaces in all of Walt Disney World sits quietly above PizzeRizzo: an ongoing 1980s-style wedding reception. Themed with checkerboard floors, disco lighting, and looping DJ announcements, the room feels frozen in time. Guests can sit among half-finished cakes, mismatched party favors, and a dance floor ready for a celebration that never quite happens.

The details are pure Muppet madness—subtle jokes hidden in signs, napkins, and wall art. It’s a space many guests miss entirely, but it’s worth the walk upstairs, especially on this final day.

Muppet Courtyard: A Forgotten Backlot Treasure

Although Disney officially renamed the area “Grand Avenue” a few years ago, fans never stopped calling it Muppet Courtyard — a testament to the lasting impact and personality of this space. Originally intended to be part of a full Muppet Studios expansion, Muppet Courtyard retained its backlot feel from the park’s early days as Disney-MGM Studios. Brick walls, back alley doors, and staged windows hinted at a much bigger concept that never materialized. While the Streets of America and Lights, Motors, Action! faded away, this little corner remained—a love letter to Jim Henson’s creative legacy.

Today, that chapter ends.

Saying Goodbye to Muppet Courtyard

As Disney prepares to reimagine this space, we say goodbye to a truly original area of the park. Whether you loved the chaotic humor of Muppet*Vision, enjoyed a quiet slice upstairs at PizzeRizzo, or simply appreciated the charm of the Muppets in theme park form, this was a special place.

But there’s good news: the Muppets aren’t disappearing completely. Disney has confirmed that the Muppets will be moving to Sunset Boulevard in 2026 to take over the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster. So while we’re saying farewell to Muppet Courtyard, we can also look forward to the next chapter of Muppet mayhem, with brand-new thrills ahead.
