The updated attraction, presented by General Motors, will officially reopen July 22, 2025—much earlier than some fans expected, but exactly the date predicted on the last episode of This Week at Walt Disney World, June 11th.

This version will debut an all-new musical score and updated scenes that showcase how cutting-edge technology is making cars smarter and our lives more connected. According to Disney, one of the featured scenes will allow guests to experience the world through the “eyes” of a vehicle, brought to life with over 29,000 points of light and dynamic effects that simulate how sensors and cameras perceive their surroundings.

While staying rooted in Test Track’s tradition of celebrating future automotive tech, the new version also emphasizes the joy of the road trip—spending time with family, embracing adventure, and enjoying the journey.

A Look Back at Test Track’s Evolution

The story of Test Track began in 1999, when it replaced an original Epcot attraction, World of Motion, with a groundbreaking new attraction.  The original Test Track immersed guests in a behind-the-scenes journey through GM’s crash testing process. From thermal chambers to brake tests to the unforgettable barrier crash finale, this version was gritty, industrial, and filled with kinetic energy.

The Florida 97 road sign in the Test Track Queue (and in the ride) refers to the original planned opening in 1997.  The actual opening didn’t happen until March 17, 1999.

In 2012, the attraction underwent a major update, transforming it into what fans often refer to as Test Track 2.0. Known as the “Sim Track” version, it invited guests to design their own concept cars in a digital pre-show experience. The ride then evaluated those designs across four key categories—capability, efficiency, responsiveness, and power—on a sleek, neon-lit test course.

Before Test Track closed in June 2024 to make way for its 3.0 evolution, Sam’s Disney Diary documented its final ride-through and preserved the legacy of both previous versions.

What to Expect from Test Track 3.0

As seen in concept art and confirmed in today’s Disney Parks Blog update, Test Track 3.0 leans into futuristic styling with a sleek, immersive vibe. Ride scenes will now highlight the integration of AI and sensing technology, giving guests a feel for how vehicles interpret their environment in real-time.

This reimagined version also includes:

  • An all-new soundtrack designed to match the kinetic energy of the track.
  • Enhanced storytelling elements that blend style, innovation, and nostalgia.
  • A refreshed queue and design studio experience with nods to the original World of Motion.

Summer Preview Opportunities and Cool KID SUMMER

Before the July 22 grand reopening, Disney plans to offer early access to cast members, Annual Passholders, Disney Vacation Club Members, Golden Oak residents, and Club 33 Members. These special previews will be announced soon, so keep your eyes on the mirrors (and the official channels).

A Ride Through Time, Speed, and Imagination

Test Track has always been about progress—from its original GM-sponsored crash course to the digital design labs of version 2.0. Now, with Test Track 3.0, Disney and Chevrolet are inviting guests to experience a brighter, more connected future, all while celebrating the open road.
