In their place will be two brand-new themed lands. One based on Disney Villains. The other inspired by Pixar’s Cars. This is your chance to take one last walk across the island. Soon, it will disappear from the Magic Kingdom landscape forever.
A Hidden Frontier, Now History
Tom Sawyer Island opened in 1973, two years after Magic Kingdom welcomed its first guests. The writings of Mark Twain inspired the area. It was brought to life through a walkable wilderness filled with references to Tom, Huck, Becky, and Injun Joe. Designed as an escape from the busy walkways of the park, it gave families space to roam and imagine.
The experience began aboard a hand-pulled raft across the Rivers of America. From there, guests could explore Fort Langhorn, climb barrel bridges, and navigate the twists of Injun Joe’s Cave. It was always a bit off the beaten path—and that was the point.
