Marvel Studios has done it again. The Fantastic Four: First Steps, the long-awaited debut of Marvel’s first family in the MCU, opened to a stellar $218 million worldwide in its first weekend. With $118 million domestic and $100 million international, it becomes the 37th consecutive MCU title to top the box office.
This marks a milestone for Disney, which has now surpassed $3 billion in global ticket sales for 2025. The current total sits at $3.19 billion. It’s also the fourth year in a row The Walt Disney Company has reached this milestone.
Audiences Embrace the Retro-Futuristic Team
Set in a 1960s-inspired, retro-futuristic world, The Fantastic Four: First Steps introduces viewers to Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal), Sue Storm (Vanessa Kirby), Johnny Storm (Joseph Quinn), and Ben Grimm (Ebon Moss-Bachrach). The story picks up four years after their cosmic transformation. In Earth-828, they are more than superheroes—they’re leaders, celebrities, and, above all, a real family.
Audiences have responded to the film’s unique visual style. Notably, 46% of domestic ticket sales came from Premium Large Format, IMAX, and 3D formats. The movie premiered in more than 4,100 domestic theaters, offering fans multiple opportunities to see it on the big screen.
Certified Fresh and Fan Approved
Critics and fans are applauding Marvel’s latest chapter. The Fantastic Four: First Steps is Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with an 88% Critics Score and a 93% Verified Audience Score. It’s earned a solid A- CinemaScore, while PostTrak audiences rated it 4.5 out of 5 stars. An impressive 62% described it as “Excellent.”

Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios, explained the creative decision: “Every big storyline we’ve adapted in the MCU—from Infinity Gauntlet to Civil War—featured the Fantastic Four in the comics. Now that we finally have them, we wanted to establish them on their own terms, in an alternate universe.”

The Fantastic Four Beyond the Big Screen
Guests visiting Disneyland Park can experience the excitement in person. The Fantastic Four are making special appearances in Tomorrowland, joined by their faithful robotic companion H.E.R.B.I.E. Appearances are also planned for Disneyland Paris and Hong Kong Disneyland in the near future.

In the film, the family dynamic takes center stage as they face off against the cosmic threat Galactus (Ralph Ineson), who not only endangers Earth, but targets Reed and Sue’s son, Franklin. While their powers are fantastic, it’s their unity that proves even more powerful.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps is now playing in theaters worldwide and has officially launched a bold new era for Marvel Studios and the MCU.
