A New Spell Transforms Animation Courtyard
Big news is unfolding at Disney’s Hollywood Studios! In 2026, the former Star Wars: Launch Bay transforms into a vibrant family destination. This experience draws inspiration from Walt Disney Animation Studios and the Emmy-winning short film Once Upon a Studio. The upcoming attraction—The Magic of Disney Animation—will welcome guests into a world of characters, creativity, and hands-on fun.
The Sorcerer Hat makes its return—this time crowning the new building with a replica of Mickey’s famous hat, echoing the Roy E. Disney Animation Building in Burbank.
What Awaits Inside The Magic of Disney Animation
Guests who step inside the reimagined space will discover a world where characters have taken over while animators are away. Just like in Once Upon a Studio, Disney characters come to life, offering interactive adventures in every direction.
Animated portraits move before your eyes. Drawing sessions help you sketch your own character. Studio departments become whimsical playgrounds, led by Disney pals creating nonstop fun.
A new short film—with a surprise twist—adds heart to the experience. Young artists can dive into “Drawn to Wonderland,” an imaginative indoor playground inspired by Mary Blair’s concept art for Alice in Wonderland. Expect oversized flowers, musical instruments, and a playful Mad Tea Party area.
Animation Courtyard Evolves into The Walt Disney Studios
The transformation extends beyond the attraction. The entire Animation Courtyard becomes The Walt Disney Studios, modeled after Disney’s historic Burbank campus. Guests will notice updated architecture, a refreshed Studio Theater still hosting The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure, and a soundstage featuring a brand-new Disney Jr. show.
Families can explore the tree-shaded courtyard, relax with snacks, and catch surprise character appearances in the most unexpected spots—from the grass to the trees above.
Timeline and Closures to Note
To prepare for the transformation, Animation Courtyard and Disney Jr. Play and Dance! will close starting September 25, 2025. However, The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure and Walt Disney Presents will remain open during constructio
