Richard Sherman’s Legacy Echoes Through a Small World Last Verse coming to Disneyland and Walt Disney World

Few songs in Disney history are as universally recognized—or as heartfelt—as “It’s a Small World.” First introduced at the 1964 New York World’s Fair, this iconic tune has echoed through Disney Parks since 1966. Now, it’s being refreshed with one final verse penned by Disney Legend Richard Sherman, written before his passing as his last gift to fans.

A Legacy Verse Debuts July 17

Starting July 17, 2025, Disneyland’s 70th Anniversary,  both Disneyland and Walt Disney World will update the finale scene of “It’s a Small World” to include this new, emotional verse. The moment will mark the global debut of The Sherman Brothers’ final lyrical contribution, meant to reinforce the attraction’s enduring message of unity and hope.

Richard’s son, Gregg Sherman, shared that the new lines were written to remind us all that “there’s more that unites us than divides us.” It’s a fitting message for a ride that has always celebrated global harmony.

Fans eager to hear the updated version don’t have to wait until July 17. You can listen to the digital single now on your favorite streaming platforms. Or, for collectors, pre-order the 70th Anniversary special edition vinyl starting July 18 through Disney Music Emporium.

Celebrating Sherman at D23

Richard Sherman’s contributions to Disney music span decades, from Mary Poppins to The Jungle Book. At the 2024 D23 Ultimate Disney Fan Event, fans were treated to a heartfelt tribute to “Jolly Holiday”.  Celebrating tje life, legacy, and melodies that shaped Disney’s sound.
