ESPN–NFL Shake-Up: Rich Eisen’s Return and Disney’s New Football Era

Disney and the NFL are entering a new era of sports broadcasting. It is being reported that ESPN is finalizing a multi-billion-dollar deal that will bring NFL media assets, including NFL Network and NFL RedZone, under the Disney umbrella (Reuters, Washington Post). At the same time, The Rich Eisen Show returns to ESPN Radio beginning September 2, 2025, airing weekdays from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. ET, and streaming on Disney+, ESPN+, and ESPN’s upcoming direct‑to‑consumer platform.

A Blockbuster NFL Deal

According to The Athletic (subscription may be required), the deal could include

  • Complete control of NFL Network and NFL RedZone
  • Seven additional regular‑season games
  • The NFL’s fantasy football operations
  • A potential 10% equity stake in ESPN for the NFL

This agreement, years in the making, is expected to roll out by the 2026 NFL season, pending regulatory approval (Reuters).  Please note that as of August 2, 2025, no formal announcement has been made.

Why This Deal Could Change Everything

  • More NFL coverage: ESPN becomes the go‑to home for football content.
  • Streaming power: Disney’s $29.99/month ESPN streaming service will integrate live NFL games and RedZone.
  • Stronger alliance: The NFL gains equity in ESPN, ensuring shared success.

Rich Eisen’s Return

Rich Eisen, one of the founding voices of NFL Network, is coming back to ESPN for the first time in over 20 years. His daily show, launching September 2, 2025, will deliver NFL stories, in‑depth analysis, and exclusive interviews. Like ESPN’s deal with Pat McAfee, Eisen retains creative control.

Looking Ahead

This partnership marks the most significant transformation in NFL broadcasting since Monday Night Football debuted on ESPN. Fans can expect more games, enhanced coverage, and an all‑in‑one platform for football. While Rich Eisen kicks things off this September, the full ESPN–NFL integration is set to redefine the fan experience in 2026.

Could Walt Disney World Become the Ultimate NFL Destination?

The closure of the ESPN Club at Disney’s BoardWalk after the pandemic left a noticeable gap for fans who once gathered there to watch live sports.

With Disney’s deepening ties to the NFL, many wonder if the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex could evolve into the ultimate destination for watching not only football, but all sports. The timing aligns with long‑standing rumors that this NFL deal has been in the works for years.

A tough sight for ESPN Club fans—watching the slow demolition of an icon… and I’m still not over it. A cake shop? Really?

Imagine a dedicated hub at Walt Disney World where guests can catch every NFL game, enjoy exclusive coverage, and experience the league like never before—positioning the resort as the go‑to spot for football fans nationwide.  Come on, Disney, make it happen!
