Disney’s classic body-swap comedy is about to get, well… freakier. Opening in theaters Friday, August 8, Freakier Friday reunites Disney Legend Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan for a multigenerational twist on the beloved 2003 film Freaky Friday.
A New Swap, A New Challenge
Twenty-two years after their first body swap, Tess (Curtis) is a successful psychologist preparing for a book tour, while Anna (Lohan) is juggling her career managing pop star Ella (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan) and raising her 15-year-old surfer daughter, Harper (Julia Butters). When Anna meets Eric (Manny Jacinto), a single dad to teenage fashionista Lily (Sophia Hammons), sparks fly. But when Tess swaps bodies with Lily and Anna trades places with Harper, chaos — and laughter — follow.

Physical Comedy and Emotional Depth
Director Nisha Ganatra blends hallmark physical comedy with heartfelt moments. Curtis, Lohan, Butters, and Hammons each studied one another’s quirks to perfect their switched roles. “The whole concept of a body-swap comedy is, ‘Walk a mile in my shoes,’” Curtis said. “And in our case, it’s four different perspective shifts.” Lohan noted the fun of seeing Anna now in a role similar to Tess’s in the first film.
Familiar Faces and Easter Eggs
The “ultimate freakquel” features returning cast members Rosalind Chao (Mama P), Chad Michael Murray (Jake), and Mark Harmon (Ryan). Bill Chott returns as Mr. Laritate, Sean Whalen as Mantooth, and Amanda Tepe makes a special Christmas episode appearance. Longtime fans can expect Easter eggs, callbacks, and even a reunion of Anna’s band, Pink Slip.

Why It Works for All Generations
Ganatra hopes audiences see Freakier Friday with their moms, daughters, kids, and friends. Curtis calls it “the Disney combo” of heart and humor. Lohan hopes viewers leave with “a feeling of love, togetherness, and comfort” — and a reminder to value and understand one another.
