Good things really do come in small packages! As part of the Disneyland Resort’s 70th Celebration, a brand-new miniature of Rapunzel’s Tower from Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Tangled is joining the Storybook Land Canal Boats attraction at Disneyland Park this winter.
A New Chapter for a Classic Attraction
The Storybook Land Canal Boats have always celebrated the magic of Disney storytelling in miniature form. Now Rapunzel’s Tower will take its place among the charming villages, castles, and cottages along the canal. According to Disney, guests will find the new tower between the Patchwork Quilt and Toad Hall when the attraction reopens this winter.
Concept art reveals a slender, shingled turret surrounded by lush greenery. Tiny details complete the scene—from wanted posters for Flynn Rider (each with a slightly different nose) to a secluded dock and glowing lanterns that evoke the film’s romantic finale. During the day, visitors will hear “When Will My Life Begin?” drifting from the tower, while at night, “I See the Light” will accompany the twinkling reflections on the water.
Storybook Land’s Connection to Walt Disney
The addition of Rapunzel’s Tower feels especially fitting as the park celebrates its 70th anniversary. Storybook Land Canal Boats traces its roots back to Walt Disney’s fascination with miniatures. The attraction debuted on opening day in 1955 as Canal Boats of the World but soon closed for reimagining. In June 1956, it reopened as Storybook Land Canal Boats, transforming the ride into a whimsical journey through small-scale recreations of Disney’s most beloved fairytales.
Each 1:12 scale village showcases meticulous craftsmanship and lush horticultural design. From Cinderella’s Castle perched high above to Geppetto’s Workshop. The attraction continues Walt’s original vision and invites guests to sail through a living storybook.
Hidden Details & Fun Facts
Disneyland fans know Storybook Land is full of secrets, and these classic touches continue to delight:
- Living Letters: The attraction’s “Storybook Land” sign is made entirely from colorful plants, a landscape art style known as parterre.
- Historic Lighthouse: The red-and-white striped lighthouse near the queue once served as a ticket booth—back when the attraction required a “D” ticket before 1982.
- Unique Boats: Each boat has its own hand-painted design and name, inspired by Disney animated characters.
- Through Monstro’s Mouth: Guests still begin their journey by sailing through Monstro the Whale, where you can spot the black soot marks from Pinocchio’s escape.
- Holiday Magic: During the holidays, Storybook Land is adorned with tiny wreaths, frosted rooftops, and festive mini-decorations.
Tangled’s Timeless Magic in Miniature
This marks the first time Tangled joins the Storybook Land lineup. Giving fans a fresh reason to revisit this Disneyland original. Like previous additions—Aladdin, Frozen, and The Little Mermaid. Rapunzel’s Tower blends effortlessly with the attraction’s heritage while adding new sparkle for today’s guests.
As the Casey Jr. Circus Train rolls by, lanterns shimmer on the canal. This mini version of Corona’s kingdom becomes one of the most picturesque additions yet.
