Shanghai Disney Resort has announced plans for a fourth themed hotel and an expanded Disneytown district. The project will bring more shopping, dining, and entertainment to guests. The announcement coincides with the resort welcoming its 100 millionth guest, confirming its status as China’s most visited theme park.
The new hotel will sit just steps from the entrance to Shanghai Disneyland. It will offer themed accommodations and exclusive experiences that extend the park’s magic beyond its gates. Guests can expect immersive storytelling, detailed design, and the high level of service that defines Disney resorts worldwide.
A Record of Growth and Innovation
More projects are underway across Disney Experiences than at any other time in company history. Shanghai Disney Resort’s expansion reflects growing demand from fans across China and around the globe.
In the past decade, the resort has added Toy Story Land, the Ignite the Dream nighttime show, and the hugely popular Zootopia-themed land, which will soon debut Zootopia 2 hidden gems. Future additions include a Spider-Man themed land and updates to Soaring Over the Horizon.
This growth has earned Shanghai Disney Resort a spot among the top five most visited theme parks in the world, according to the 2024 TEA Global Experience Index, released October 23, 2025.
“Shanghai Disney Resort’s extraordinary momentum reflects our commitment to bringing Disney stories and characters to new audiences,” said Josh D’Amaro, Chairman of Disney Experiences. “This dedication, along with our global investments in innovation and expansion, fuels a future where the resort continues to inspire and delight guests for generations.”
Disney Expansion Outlook
Shanghai Disney Resort’s growth highlights Disney’s expanding reach in storytelling, technology, and hospitality. The fourth hotel and new Disneytown experiences are more than additions—they’re opportunities to deepen guest connections to Disney stories.
