New Details for Magic of Disney Animation
Disney has shared new details about Magic of Disney Animation coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios in late summer 2026.
While we already know this experience replaces Launch Bay, the latest update reveals how immersive and layered this transformation will be. This is not simply a new play area. It is a full reimagining of Animation Courtyard.
A Sorcerer Hat Returns — With Purpose
The building will take design inspiration from the Roy E. Disney Animation Building in Burbank. Topping the structure will be Mickey’s Sorcerer Hat. This is not a return of the oversized park icon from years past. Instead, it mirrors the real studio building in California.
Inside, the story imagines animators stepping away while the characters come to life. As a result, guests explore studio departments overtaken by playful animated energy.
Off the Page Brings the Animation Process to Life
One of the most intriguing additions is “Off the Page!”
This walk‑through experience blends character meet and greets with animation history. Each space represents a department inside the studio.
Mulan appears in the Story department. Rapunzel greets guests in Layout, surrounded by layered backgrounds inspired by the multiplane camera. Donald and Daisy represent CG animation. Goofy appears in Lighting. Stitch pops up in Effects.
Olaf Draws Reimagines Animation Academy
Animation Academy returns in a new format called “Olaf Draws!”
A new Audio‑Animatronics Olaf hosts the experience. Josh Gad recorded original dialogue for the attraction.
Guests sit inside a reimagined animator’s studio. Meanwhile, Disney animators guide the class through step‑by‑step drawing lessons. Characters rotate throughout the day.
You may sketch Mickey, Minnie, Genie, Moana, Stitch, Ursula, or even Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde.
Drawn to Wonderland for Younger Guests
Younger visitors will find a dedicated indoor play area called “Drawn to Wonderland.”
The space draws inspiration from Mary Blair’s original Alice in Wonderland concept art. Expect oversized garden elements, whimsical details, and imaginative environments designed for exploration.
This addition ensures the experience works for families with a wide range of ages.
The Courtyard Becomes the Walt Disney Studios
The transformation extends beyond the main building. Animation Courtyard will be reimagined as “The Walt Disney Studios.” The design pulls cues from the real Burbank lot. The Studio Theater will continue to house “The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure.” A refreshed Disney Jr. show will take over the nearby soundstage.
In other words, this is a campus‑style redesign.
Once Upon a Studio Anchors the Experience
An enchanted art gallery and enhanced presentation of Once Upon a Studio round out the attraction.
Characters may appear within framed artwork. Subtle interactive effects place guests inside the celebration of Disney Animation’s legacy.
The short film becomes more than a screening. It becomes part of the environment.
It’s a Heartfelt Homecoming for Disney Animation Fans
This reimagined experience is more than just a new attraction—it’s a celebration of Disney’s animated legacy and a tribute to the studio that started it all. Whether you grew up with classics or discovered Disney through new favorites, The Magic of Disney Animation promises to enchant the entire family when it opens at Hollywood Studios this
