Toy Story 5 Trailer Brings Woody, Buzz and the Gang Back Together

The latest Toy Story 5 trailer delivers a full reunion moment that fans immediately reacted to online. Nostalgia drives the first impression before the new conflict even begins. It sets up a conflict that feels timely and personal. This time, the toys face technology itself.

Pixar moves the franchise forward with a June 19, 2026 theatrical release. However, the emotional core still centers on play, friendship, and belonging.

Woody, Buzz, Jessie, and the gang reunite on screen in a way that feels intentional. After Toy Story 4 left Woody on a separate path, many fans questioned whether the core group would share the screen again. This trailer answers that question clearly. Yet the world around them has changed.

Meet the New Characters

The biggest addition in the Toy Story 5 trailer is Lilypad. She is a frog‑shaped smart tablet toy voiced by Greta Lee. Unlike traditional toys, Lilypad represents constant digital engagement. As a result, she becomes the central force pulling Bonnie away from imaginative play.

Several other new toys expand that theme.

Smarty Pants, voiced by Conan O’Brien, appears as a tech‑forward training toy. Atlas, voiced by Craig Robinson, takes the form of a GPS‑style hippo. Snappy, voiced by Shelby Rabara, functions as a camera toy with high energy. Each reflects a modern device translated into toy form.

Dr. Nutcase, voiced by Matty Matheson, adds tension from the opposite side. He fears technology and questions where classic toys fit in this new world. Blaze, voiced by Mykal‑Michelle Harris, introduces another human presence connected to Bonnie’s expanding world.

Together, these characters build a clear theme. Toys are no longer competing with other toys. They are competing with screens.

Bonnie Is Older and So Are the Toys

Bonnie is now older, around eight years old. Therefore, her interests shift toward devices and digital interaction. That shift drives the central conflict.

At the same time, the trailer quietly acknowledges time passing for the toys themselves. Subtle visual jokes hint at age and wear. This franchise has always balanced humor with growth. That balance continues here.

Forky Returns

Forky’s appearance in the Toy Story 5 trailer reinforces that he remains part of Bonnie’s core group. After becoming a breakout character in Toy Story 4, his return feels natural and expected.

In the opening moments, Forky appears alongside his handmade bride from the previous film’s mid-credits scene. That character is Karen Beverly, who returns as part of the continuity rather than as a brand-new addition.

Themes: Play vs. Technology

Pixar leans directly into the tension between classic imaginative play and modern screen time. However, the trailer avoids feeling preachy.

Instead, it frames the conflict as relevance. Where do traditional toys belong in a digital world? Can they adapt, or must they fight for attention?

Because of that, the story feels culturally resonant. Families recognize the tension between devices and imagination. Yet the emotional stakes stay rooted in Woody, Buzz, and their loyalty to Bonnie.

Sam’s Disney Diary Take

The Toy Story 5 trailer suggests this sequel is not simply extending the franchise. It is redefining its central challenge.

Lilypad and the new tech toys create a modern antagonist without abandoning heart. More importantly, the reunion of Woody, Buzz, Jessie, and the full gang restores the emotional foundation that longtime fans have been asking for since Toy Story 4. The balance between nostalgia and evolution feels intentional.

If Pixar executes this theme with the emotional precision of past films, Toy Story 5 could resonate with both longtime fans and a new generation discovering these characters for the first time.
