When Walt Disney World opened the doors to Roundup Rodeo BBQ in Toy Story Land, it wasn’t just a new restaurant but an invitation into Andy’s imagination. Located next to the popular Slinky Dog Dash, this playful dining location shrinks guests to the size of a toy and places them inside a handcrafted rodeo arena built by Andy himself.

From Blueprints to Backyard Rodeo in Toy Story Land
Jared explained how the team designed Roundup Rodeo BBQ as an extension of Toy Story Land’s immersive storytelling. The idea? Andy built a rodeo arena using his favorite toys, cardboard cutouts, blocks, and games. As a result, the space had to feel playful, oversized, and entirely handcrafted.

One major challenge, Jared noted, was making the environment feel like something a child made. From reused toy packaging to crayon-drawn signs, every detail was crafted to look authentically “kid-created.” Imagineers studied real kids’ drawings to get it just right.
Inside the Design Process of a Disney BBQ Restaurant
In our Roundup Rodeo BBQ interview, Jared described how Imagineers collaborated with Pixar animators to keep every element to the Toy Story universe accurate. They had to support large family-style seating, keep traffic flowing efficiently, and maintain the illusion that guests were truly toy-sized—additionally, the space needed to accommodate both storytelling and practicality.

The restaurant is divided into themed sections—each inspired by Andy’s imaginary adventures. Cowboy showdowns, space missions, and classic Toy Story moments fill the space with energy and character. Notably, some murals were based directly on concept sketches from the films.
Food Meets Fun at Roundup Rodeo BBQ
Naturally, the food had to be just as imaginative as the setting. Jared explained how the culinary team and Imagineers worked together to create a menu that was both hearty and fun. Think slow-smoked barbecue, classic sides, and whimsical desserts—all served family-style in trays that resemble toy gear.

Moreover, the design of the food presentation adds to the playful narrative. Even the plates and serving trays resemble items pulled from Andy’s toy box. The menu design also contains Easter eggs, so keep your eyes peeled!
The Magic of Collaboration Across Disney Teams
When asked what he’s most proud of, Jared highlighted the incredible collaboration that made Roundup Rodeo BBQ possible. Imagineers, Pixar creatives, chefs, builders, and designers all worked together to make the vision real. It was a true team effort from beginning to end.

“This project brought together storytellers, designers, chefs, and craftsmen,” he said. “And when you see guests walk in and their eyes light up, you know it all paid off.”
