This past fall, I was lucky enough to visit Disneyland just in time to experience one of the resortโs most beloved seasonal traditionsโHaunted Mansion Holiday.
Every year starting in mid-September, the Haunted Mansion transforms into a holiday-themed spectacle inspired by Tim Burtonโs The Nightmare Before Christmas. From the moment Jack Skellington welcomes you at the gates, the familiar eerie ambiance of the Haunted Mansion blends seamlessly with the quirky charm of Halloween Town.

A Two-Holiday Tradition
What makes this overlay so special is its dual-season theme. Since it blends both Halloween and Christmas, the attraction operates from late September through early January, giving fans a multi-month window to enjoy this festive experience.
To make the transformation possible, the Haunted Mansion typically closes for about two and a half weeks in early September. After the final sleigh bells jingle in January, the mansion closes again to revert back to its classic form.

Only at Disneyland (and Tokyo!)
If youโve only visited Walt Disney World, this overlay might be new to youโHaunted Mansion Holiday is exclusive to Disneyland and Tokyo Disneyland. Itโs been around since 2001, and its popularity continues to grow. Despite years of fan requests, the seasonal overlay has never made its way to Florida.
Firsthand Experience
On my recent visit, I was thrilled to see the ride in all its haunted-holiday glory. From the gingerbread house centerpiece in the ballroom to Zero floating through the graveyard, every scene was packed with festive details. It was everything I hoped forโand now I canโt wait to return closer to Christmas to experience โitโs a small worldโ Holiday, which looks just as magical!
