Cheers to 35 Years of Disneyland
Originally aired on February 4, 1990, as part of The Magical World of Disney, the Disneyland 35th Anniversary television special was hosted by Tony Danza. What made this one unique? It opened on the set of Cheers, where the cast discussed their favorite Disney Princesses while watching the special from the bar.

A Star-Studded, Comedic Tribute
Woody Harrelson shared a childhood memory of his first trip to Disneyland, setting the tone for nostalgia. Tony Danza served as host throughout a variety of humorous and heartwarming segments. We even saw Ronald Reagan return to the park for a rededication ceremony, reinforcing Disneyland’s legacy as a place for presidents and everyday guests alike.

Disney Classics with a Twist
The special highlighted some of the park’s most memorable attractions. One standout moment featured a one-of-a-kind ride on the Jungle Cruise, filmed from angles rarely seen by viewers at home. Meanwhile, Miss Piggy tried to steal the spotlight by replacing Cinderella in the daily parade. Thanks to Gonzo’s magical misfire, she pulled it off with a bit of flair.

A Musical Finale with 90s Vibes
Adding a fresh musical spin, DJ Jazzy Jeff and Will Smith performed a high-energy version of “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.” We also caught a sentimental clip from Ernest P. Worrell, who shared a home movie of his first visit to Disneyland with his dad. These moments gave the special humor, heart, and history.

Looking Back at 35 Years of Change
Above all, the show reflected on how Disneyland had evolved since its 1955 debut. From its humble beginnings to cutting-edge entertainment, the 35th Anniversary special showcased the park’s ability to grow while retaining its magical roots.
