A Broadcast Fit for a Diamond Celebration
Airing on ABC on February 21, 2016, The Wonderful World of Disney: Disneyland 60 marked a grand celebration of the park’s diamond anniversary. Unlike previous specials, much of this event was filmed live from the Hollywood and Highland Center, not inside the park itself. The show brought together music, tributes, and surprises, all honoring 60 years of Disneyland magic.
Kicking Off with Dancing and Disney Nostalgia
The special opened with a tribute to the original Wonderful World of Disney TV intro. Derek Hough and Witney Carson of Dancing with the Stars introduced the show, setting the stage for an energetic and elegant night. Disney legends, classic characters, and memorable park attractions were celebrated through musical numbers and video retrospectives.
Musical Moments and Star Power
The evening featured performances from Pentatonix, Kelsea Ballerini, Fall Out Boy, Ne-Yo, and Little Big Town. Dick Van Dyke charmed audiences with a Mary Poppins medley, and Elton John performed live in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle.
Idina Menzel, Tori Kelly with Kermit the Frog, and The Sugarhill Gang added even more musical flair. The event included a special Star Wars in Concert segment introduced by Harrison Ford, celebrating the park’s future expansion into a galaxy far, far away.
Celebrity Tributes and Movie Magic
Tributes from Whoopi Goldberg, Ginnifer Goodwin, Jason Bateman, and John Lasseter brought warmth and reflection. Another highlight was the world premiere of the live-action Pete’s Dragon trailer, giving viewers an exclusive sneak peek at a reimagined Disney classic.

From heartfelt performances to high-energy dance numbers, the Disneyland 60th Anniversary special stood out as a one-of-a-kind tribute. It honored the park’s past, celebrated its present, and gave fans a glimpse of what lies ahead.
