A Hidden Gem for Star Wars Weekend Fans

The Star Wars Weekend Premier Theater at Disney’s Hollywood Studios was the place to be during Star Wars Weekend 2014. Tucked behind Muppet Vision 3D near the Streets of America, this indoor venue had a long history of seasonal use and played a pivotal role in housing some of the event’s most memorable presentations.

Originally home to stage shows like Beauty and the Beast, The Spirit of Pocahontas, and The Hunchback of Notre Dame, the space eventually became a seasonal venue for Star Wars Weekends starting in 2008. With American Idol closing in the Superstar Television Theater, there was speculation that Frozen’s sing-along would move venues in 2015—possibly returning the Premier Theater to full Star Wars control.

FastPass+ and Celebrity Showcases

One of the biggest upgrades in 2014? FastPass+ availability for Premier Theater presentations. These high-energy shows were limited to once per day, but always packed a punch with fan-favorite hosts and surprise guests.

Here are a few highlights from the Star Wars Weekend Premier Theater schedule during my visit:

• Behind the Force: Star Wars Rebels – Ashley Eckstein (voice of Ahsoka Tano) and friends offered a behind-the-scenes sneak peek at the upcoming Star Wars Rebels animated series.
• Stars of the Saga – Hosted by James Arnold Taylor, this 30-minute talk show featured interviews and stories from visiting Star Wars celebrities.
• Obi-Wan and Beyond – The standout performance of the weekend, James Arnold Taylor showcased his incredible vocal talents by performing over 200 iconic characters—from Obi-Wan to Fred Flintstone to a Pop-Tart. His passion for voice acting turned this into an unforgettable, high-energy show.

Theater with a Legacy

The Star Wars Weekend Premier Theater experience was more than just a seat with air-conditioning. It became a core part of the event’s identity, delivering heart, humor, and history straight from the galaxy far, far away. For long-time fans, it offered a personal connection to the stars and creators of the franchise—and a great way to escape the Florida heat.
