1990 Walt Disney World Easter Parade: A Nostalgic Disney Celebration

The 1990 Walt Disney World Happy Easter Day Parade was broadcast on ABC on Easter Sunday, April 15, 1990, and hosted by Joan Lunden, Alan Thicke, and Regis Philbin. This nostalgic parade is a perfect snapshot of 1990s Disney magic, with performances from DuckTales and Rescue Rangers and special guests Buster Poindexter and Howie Mandel. The parade begins at Magic Kingdom with the 500-piece Walt Disney World Honor Band, followed by a high-energy appearance from Roger Rabbit, celebrating his starring role in the new short Roller Coaster Rabbit, which premiered that summer alongside Dick Tracy in theaters.

Mickey and Minnie Mouse light up Main Street, U.S.A., with a springtime musical number, “Mickey, She’s Got a Crush on You.” The parade served as a vibrant precursor to the Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival just a few years later.

Highlights from the Parade:

• Alan Thicke turns up the fun at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, performing as “That Dancin’ Guy” throughout the park.
• The Mouseketeers rock Main Street with a performance to kick off their 1990 national tour.
• Mary Poppins and friends make a magical appearance before cutting over to Disneyland for the “Party Gras” Parade, part of Disneyland’s 35th Anniversary.

• Buster Poindexter takes viewers on a wild ride at Disneyland’s Splash Mountain, which opened in 1989.
• Howie Mandel offers a behind-the-scenes look at Disney-MGM Studios, including the Backlot Tour.

The DuckTales crew gets their own theme song performance, followed closely by Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers. Over at Mickey’s Starland, Mickey’s guests include characters from The Gummy Bears, DuckTales, and Rescue Rangers.

The Mouseketeers even make a splash at Typhoon Lagoon, singing by the water in a tropical-themed musical number. Finally, the parade wraps up with a heartfelt tribute to Give Kids the World.  Followed by Mickey Mouse leading the grand finale.
