Seeing Mickey’s Sorcerer Hat at Disney’s Hollywood Studios again is the kind of update that grabs your attention right away. It is not returning as the park icon fans remember, but its reappearance above the reimagined Disney Animation building is the clearest sign yet that Animation Courtyard is finally taking shape.

More importantly, it gives this project a real visual identity. After months of concept art and announcements, guests can now see one of the most recognizable symbols tied to Hollywood Studios and Disney animation history.
A first look at what is changing
Guests can now spot the Sorcerer Hat as work continues on the reimagined Animation Courtyard. Disney has already confirmed that the outdoor area opens May 26, 2026, while The Magic of Disney Animation follows in late summer 2026.
That makes the hat more than a nostalgic touch. It is the first visible marker of a much larger transformation, one that re-centers this part of the park around Disney animation.
What opens on May 26
The first phase is the courtyard itself, reimagined with inspiration from The Walt Disney Studios lot in Burbank. Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live! will also help bring new energy to the area, alongside The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure.
That matters because Animation Courtyard has felt like a pass-through for a long time. This update gives the area a stronger purpose and makes it feel like a destination again.
What follows in late summer
Later this summer, the former Star Wars: Launch Bay building will reopen as The Magic of Disney Animation. Disney has previewed character spaces, hands-on experiences, themed environments, and a new drawing experience with Olaf.
Spaces like Off the Page! and Drawn to Wonderland suggest this will be more than a simple exhibit. The goal appears to be a family-friendly area where Disney animation becomes the story.

This is a smart update for Hollywood Studios. The Sorcerer Hat instantly adds emotion, but the bigger win is that Animation Courtyard finally feels like it has direction again. For longtime fans, the hat brings back a familiar piece of the park. For newer guests, the reimagined courtyard and The Magic of Disney Animation could become one of the most inviting family spaces in the park.
Right now, the hat is only a first look. Still, it says a lot. Animation is moving back into the spotlight at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
