The toys are back, and this time the challenge is bigger than a new kid, a new room, or a new adventure. Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story 5 brings Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Jessie, Forky, Bonnie, and the rest of the gang face-to-face with something very familiar to today’s families: technology.
The latest look at the Toy Story 5 characters sets up a story where “Toy meets Tech.” Bonnie is now eight years old, growing up fast, and trying to figure out where toys fit in a world where screens are becoming a bigger part of childhood. That shift arrives in the form of Lilypad, a frog-shaped smart tablet voiced by Greta Lee, who quickly becomes Bonnie’s new favorite.
For fans who grew up with Toy Story, that idea hits close to home. The franchise has always been about change: growing up, moving on, and finding purpose when the world around you feels different. Toy Story 5 appears ready to explore that idea again, only this time through the eyes of classic toys trying to understand a tech-driven world.
Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters June 19, 2026.
Woody and Buzz Are Back Together
Woody, voiced once again by Tom Hanks, is no longer simply waiting in Bonnie’s room. He is off with Bo Peep and her toy-rescue squad when a surprise call brings him back into the story. This time, Woody has a new adventurous edge, but his loyalty remains the same.
Buzz Lightyear, voiced by Disney Legend Tim Allen, has a new role of his own. He is now serving as deputy to Sheriff Jessie, complete with a deputy star and a mission to help keep Bonnie’s playtime on track. But when Jessie and Bullseye go missing, Buzz must team up with Woody again.
That classic Woody and Buzz partnership is one of the biggest pieces of this reveal. After the emotional ending of Toy Story 4, seeing them pulled back together gives Toy Story 5 a familiar heartbeat while still pushing the story forward.
Jessie Takes the Lead in Bonnie’s Room
Jessie, voiced by Joan Cusack, is now the sheriff in Bonnie’s room. That is an important change for the story and for the toy family. Jessie is leading the gang as Bonnie tries to connect with friends, but the arrival of Lilypad challenges everything the toys think they know about playtime.
Jessie and Bullseye are also separated from the rest of the gang, setting up their own adventure. Bullseye, always the loyal steed, finds himself riding alongside a real-life horse as he helps Jessie find the way back.
That detail alone feels very Toy Story. It is playful, emotional, and just strange enough to feel perfectly right for Pixar.
Toy Story 5 Characters Meet Lilypad
The most important new addition may be Lilypad. Voiced by Greta Lee, Lilypad is Bonnie’s new smart tablet and quickly becomes the center of attention. To the traditional toys, she is a threat. To Bonnie, she may feel like a way to connect with friends.
Lilypad encourages Bonnie to chat with friends from dance class on “The Pond.” While Jessie represents classic imaginative play, Lilypad represents a new kind of connection. The interesting twist is that both characters want the same thing: to help Bonnie.
That makes Lilypad more than just a villain or a gadget. She appears to be a character who challenges the toys because she believes she is helping. That could make the conflict more emotional than simple toys versus technology.
New Toys Add Fresh Personality
Toy Story 5 also introduces several new toy characters, many of them tied to forgotten tech toys and old playthings.
Smarty Pants, voiced by Conan O’Brien, is a toilet-training tech toy with plenty of attitude. He has spent years forgotten in sleep mode in Blaze’s old toy shed, but a new mission gives him fresh batteries and another chance to prove himself.
Snappy, voiced by Shelby Rabara, is a cheerful toy camera who cherishes memories of her time with her kid, Blaze. Atlas, voiced by Craig Robinson, is a talking toy hippo with GPS and a built-in sense of direction. Both have been stuck away in Blaze’s tech junk drawer, waiting for another chance at adventure.
Blaze, voiced by Mykal-Michelle Harris, is a tech-savvy 9-and-a-half-year-old who lives on a ranch and still enjoys playtime from time to time. Her world brings in a new group of forgotten toys, including Garden Gnome, Pizza with Sunglasses, Inflatable Flamingo, and Dr. Nutcase, a tiny plastic wrestler-peanut with a fear of modern technology.
And then there are the Hi-Tech Edition Buzz Lightyear action figures. Fifty brand-new Buzz figures have washed ashore, stuck in space ranger mode and trying to return to Star Command. That sounds like the kind of chaos only Toy Story could turn into comedy.
Forky Gets a New Chapter Too
Forky, voiced by Tony Hale, is also back. This time, he is getting ready to marry Karen Beverly, voiced by Melissa Villaseñor. The spork and knife duo brings back the handmade charm that made Forky such a standout in Toy Story 4.
Forky’s return is a reminder that Toy Story has always balanced big emotional ideas with oddball comedy. He may be made from craft supplies, but he also represents one of the franchise’s biggest themes: a toy’s value comes from being loved.
Music Connects Toy Story 5 to the Past
The music also carries a strong connection to the history of the franchise. Randy Newman returns to score his fifth Toy Story feature, continuing one of Pixar’s most recognizable musical traditions.
The film will also feature the original song “I Knew It, I Knew You,” performed by Taylor Swift and written and produced by Swift and Jack Antonoff. That combination gives Toy Story 5 a major new music moment while still keeping Randy Newman’s score connected to the classic Pixar feel.
A New Question for a Classic Franchise
The best Toy Story stories have always asked what happens when a toy’s purpose changes. What happens when Andy grows up? What happens when a toy gets lost? What happens when a handmade spork becomes someone’s favorite toy?
Now Toy Story 5 appears to ask a very modern question: what happens when screens compete with playtime?
That gives the Toy Story 5 characters a new challenge while keeping the story rooted in the same emotional idea that started it all. Woody, Buzz, Jessie, Forky, Bullseye, and the rest of the gang are not just trying to save playtime. They are trying to understand what playtime means for Bonnie now.
