The Muppets are heading somewhere they have never gone before. Marvel Comics is celebrating The Muppet Show’s 50th anniversary with The Muppets Take The Marvel Universe #1, a new one-shot comic that sends Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzie, Rowlf, Beaker, the Swedish Chef, and more into the world of Marvel superheroes.
The comic arrives September 23, 2026, with all-new stories pairing The Muppets with Spider-Man, Black Panther, Wolverine, Emma Frost, Bruce Banner, Hank Pym, Doctor Strange, Rocket Raccoon, Groot, and more.
That is a lot of star power. It is also exactly the kind of chaos The Muppets were built for.
The Muppets Meet Marvel
The Muppets have always worked best when someone else thinks they are in control. That makes Marvel the perfect target. This should not feel like a standard superhero story with a few Muppet cameos. It should feel like The Muppets took over the production, lost the script, and somehow convinced Wolverine to stand next to Fozzie Bear.
That is the fun.
The Stories Sound Perfectly Ridiculous
Marvel is packing the one-shot with several short stories. Rowlf the Dog is kidnapped by Mojo to help launch a new streaming service, pulling Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzie, Spider-Man, Black Panther, Wolverine, Emma Frost, and more into the rescue. Muppet Labs gets involved when Bunsen Honeydew and Beaker welcome Bruce Banner and Hank Pym for an experiment involving Gamma Rays and Pym Particles.
That can only end well. Doctor Strange gets unexpected help from the Swedish Chef when Clea falls ill from a mystical virus.
Then there is the crossover we did not know we needed: Pigs in Space meets raccoons in space, with Captain Link Hogthrob, First Mate Piggy, Dr. Julius Strangepork, Rocket Raccoon, and Groot.
That is the sweet spot. The comic is not just putting The Muppets next to Marvel characters. It is finding the pairings that make the most Muppet sense.
The Muppet Show Turns 50
The timing gives this crossover a little extra meaning. The Muppets Take The Marvel Universe #1 celebrates 50 years of The Muppet Show, and the setup fits the original series perfectly. The classic show was built around guest stars entering the Muppets’ world and trying to survive the chaos.
This time, the guest star is the Marvel Universe.
A Big Creator Lineup
The one-shot features creators including Chip Zdarsky, MacKenzie Cadenhead, Phillip Kennedy Johnson, Adam F. Goldberg, Ashley Allen, Kyle Starks, Pete Woods, David Baldeón, Áthila Fabbio, E.J. Su, Paco Medina, Mike Henderson, and more.
Chip Zdarsky is an especially fun fit. He is an Eisner-winning creator and a known Muppets fan, which feels right for a crossover this strange.
A Muppets comic has to understand the voices. Kermit needs to be Kermit. Miss Piggy needs to be Miss Piggy. Fozzie needs to land the wrong joke at the right time. Beaker needs to panic.
If the comic gets that right, the Marvel chaos should take care of itself.
Sam’s Disney Diary Take
This is the kind of Disney crossover that should not work, which is exactly why it might. The Muppets do not need to become superheroes. That would miss the point. The fun is watching them walk into a world that takes itself very seriously and immediately make it less serious. Marvel has multiverses, gamma experiments, mutants, sorcerers, cosmic stakes, and world-ending threats.
The Muppets have chickens, hecklers, explosions, bad jokes, and a frog trying to keep the show moving. That contrast is the joke.
It also feels like the right way to celebrate The Muppet Show at 50. The original series was built around guest stars getting swept into Muppet chaos. This time, the guest star is the entire Marvel Universe.
